It is a nice review of J2 but also provides you some views of speakers which worked 😛 and the ones which worked less 😡.
I like the J2 very much...😀

I`ve tried maggies 1.6 with my F5, and it did not sound good. Dynamics gone and collapse in soundstage. (F5 - 23Vdc rails). 1.6 must have more watts.
I use an Aleph 3 on my Magnepan MG3a 3-ways and it sounds great, but note its use is limited to mid/hi. Bass is provided by a 200W class AB.
Can you biamp a 1.6?
I can verify that the F5 is amazing on Altec 604 😀
I think 604 is a very forgiving speaker, un-picky about the amp, and that is one of the reason why it has become extremely popular. I find my UREI (604 variant) sounds great (in different ways) with AJ, Aleph 5, even with $99 class-D!
Mico64, I'd forgotten about that review. It has some interesting observations in it. Also, it was interesting to note Mr. Reichert's conclusion, "... many audiophiles fail to realize that sensitivity ratings are rarely a wise guide when matching power amps to loudspeakers."
I've been preoccupied with an unexpected plumbing project since posing the questions in the original post. Living in a 50+ year old house has its surprises from time to time. I'm now impressed by all of your replies especially the variety and creativity of the number of responses so far! 🙂

Need 10x power for the same sound level with 85dB speakers if compare to 95dB one's. Use 10 watt amp or 100 watts ?
Distorion go higer level if power incrase and without talk about colorations components brings.
I appreciate highly educative Papa article speak at CAS :

Speakers crossovers and match with amplifier damping factor make difference no doubt. I like non crossovers at all 🙂

Sure, I'll update my picture when I finish my never ending L'amp project. 😛
Plasma, What's the driver below the UREI coax? Where are they crossed over?
That's 813C, so it should be JBL 2215H. The truth is, it is surprisingly bass shy for the size of the speaker so that I had to add 6dB low shelf EQ to boost the bass. They say UREI need to be soffit-ed on the wall to have proper bass response.

The bass is staggered probably around 200hz, no low cut for upper part.
Not worthy...
I have a 5.1 horn loaded home theater all class a, with Klipsch Jubilees in Walnut, K402 MEH center and all three with TAD 4002 beryllium drivers. Rear speakers are 1978 Klipsch Belles in Rosewood. I run Aleph J, VFET, SIT 2, and a crown to power the Tuba THT horn loaded sub that I am sitting on in the photo.
Sounds better than any movie theater I've been to. Paint, carpet and new recliners for Xmas...

@ Plasnu
Interesting audio system congratulations.
If you have today 3 tables like show on your photo do you ready try how they sound if you put all turntable, Aleph, preamp , DAC on the center. Use left and right tables to jump up speaker cabinets on them with in the corners 4 fat books underside for softer wood & wood contacts. It's work for me woofers response give me fuller bass if placed in higher position ,
more distance from the floor.
Greetings 🙂
WOW! I'd settle for just the Jubilees! Very nice 5.1 set up...
