In schemes amplifiers are sometimes different errors, and updates, enter the person designing, sometimes there is no other way to patch and schematics are repeated.
For people in other types of amplifiers not possible to produce.

Power transistor beta-lin. 0.25A/0.5A = 0.7% max.
People do not understand: this circuit amplifier as low as the god himself is nothing if it is not exactly perform (1983/STK080 Ro = 4R-THD = 0.0006%).

Can not help that almost everyone is crazy.
There are those who do to divert people attention from the good things and generally write just stupidity and there are those that the electronics do not know, I just read what anyone writes.

These circuits remind me of the second amplifier I built. I was 12 years old. It worked, and it sounded pretty bad. There was no bass, very poor dynamic response, very poor in general. But I took it out a couple of months ago and hooked it up and it still worked. I scavenged it for what few good parts it had (real 2N3055s silly I know) and used a few of the parts in a DoZ prototype. That sounded sweet.
Speaking of 2N3055, are any of the modern ones any good? I heard that some of them are nowhere near spec and some even have two dies in parallel in an attempt to meet power spec. Are the rat shack ones OK? They're expensive. I would like to buile a few DoZs for various applications (like headphone amp and tweeter amp in a triamp) and the 2N3055 works well in the output stage. I want to keep it simple and be able to reliably apply the "dominant pole" compensation scheme.

These are 40 year old industry standard circuits. I've seen them a million times. There are reasons they are not used anymore.
Perhaps you could design a modern circuit that employs the best features of these legacy circuits?
The one that measures the transistors and makes amplifiers schematics knows what he's doing and finally knows what affects the quality of the amplifier.
