Sound of various Pass amps

Sorry I didn’t mean to take things off topic.

My last post was confusing to me when I reread it.

What I am talking about is response levels between different parts of the system and having the ability to compensate for them with gain to get the overall response I want.

The reason this concerns me is that my current system requires me to max out the gain adjustment of the dipole bass with the pots on the B5...and it still comes up a little short. This is mostly due to the reduced baffle size I used. I hoped (6) drivers at 91.5dB per channel might be enough. The amps driving them don’t have enough power to compensate.

I don’t want to run into the same problem again with the midbass horns coming up short because I can’t match the response level of the Edgar horns with the Radians or Dynaudio.

I’m interested in recommendations of First Watt amps that might excel when used in the 200-800Hz range (or a bit higher) that will allow me to match levels and have similar sonic characteristics to the F2J driving these more efficient drivers in the Edgars.

The F2J is said to deliver 5 Watts into 8 Ohms. The Radian is a 16 Ohm version and delivers 111.5dB in their test horns. The Dynaudio data sheet says it’s good for 96dB and is 8 Ohm nominal.

Perhaps any 25 watt class A First Watt design would have enough power and mesh well with the F2J. I don’t know.

Hi folks -

I've posted this before, in the F7 thread and in another (non-Pass) forum, and it is the impedance plot of my speakers. They are identified as nominal 4-ohm speakers, with a sensitivity of 100db ("2.83 Volts into rated Z, at 1 meter"). I use these in a small room, and the next time I listen at 95db will also be the first time.

I've been casting about for an idea about appropriate amplifiers for these, and I'm wondering, is this a picture of what is referred to as a difficult load? Are there, given the sensitivity, both voltage and current demands that I should be paying attention to?

I'm using an M2X now, and have boards/parts on hand for the Aleph J, the F6, two versions of the F4, the original M2, the F7, the M25/SissySIT, the J2, and I have the Singing Bush on order from ZM. (I know, I know.)

Finally, the M2X is the only Pass amp that I've actually completed, and it's PP. Any SE amps that would be appropriate?

TIA - Pat

Aleph J can be modified ever so slightly, to provide exceptional bass grip. I call it Alep J MKII Have a look at these two links:

I have Dynaudio speakers with 86dB efficiency and a flat-ish 4-ohm impedance; I have never heard better bass definition, grip and control, even at very low listening levels, which is quite an achievement. So, there's space, natural presentation, finesse & very fine detail, speed & transparency and.... exceptional bass definition and grip. Beautiful stuff.

:worship: you have a grail speaker there.

of course, potentially there are more components in the X-over than you'll end up with in your amplifier

Got them (very) cheap, from a church (a big customer group for Danley) outside Minneapolis. A fellow from the Klipsch forum posted the ad on their forum, and both he and another guy passed on them. I didn't. 😉

I've known Tom since the old Joelist days, and have lusted after the speakers forever. Prior to getting them home and in the room, the only Danley speakers I had heard were the ones in the Lambeau Field system.

You guys are right about the crossover, however. Some day there'll be DSP solution, and I'll have to build three Pass amps to implement it.

If a EQ gears want not to ruin what are injected in the sota class A amp, one should consider only EQ in the FIR domain, so between the streamer and the dac in digital domain. Take the best amp and a wasted source and the best amp will be wasted ressources.

I am sure you have seen this already @tubesguy First Watt SIT-2 / Danley SH 50 - 2-Channel Home Audio - The Klipsch Audio Community

SIT all the way 😉

EDIT - totally open to you taking the Sissy for a while to see what you think

I used to belong to the Klipsch forum and got many a member to buy FW amplifiers and all of them were happy with their purchases. I do not participate there anymore being it is more of a social media forum that is pretty clannish.

I've come into ownership of a pair of Elac B6.2. They're 6 ohms and about 87dB sensitivity.
Anyone has experience pairing the B6.2 with any Pass amps? I think I want to build an F5 for them. Currently driving them with a clone Naim NAP200.
