Sony vFET Amplifier Part 2

prototype output stage boards arrived! now to get all the bits and pieces to test various ways of connecting the front end boards, as well as the gage jacks for the TO-3 devices.

Yeah, they are just laying next to each other. They are tab routed. If you would be willing to provide some guidance on the mechanical side of the design, I would be glad to send a pair your way. Just looking for some feedback on how things would mate together, etc.
 
What mechanical side do you mean exactly? Thermal, or building the case for it? Always here to help, just ask.

I see now I can't use your boards you have 3 VFETs parallel in each output stage. That's a bit too much for me 🙂 I would need 4 boards that way and leave 1/3 of the components out.
I want to build it balanced with double output pairs, matched.
 
Just looking to see how people want to use the board, by mounting the input stage to the board (an option) or running a cable from the input stage which is mounted at the rear of the case, or ... Also, do people like using the flush mount pin sockets and various board-to-board options for the front end (just ordered a few different options from FCI and Mill-Max to try)

Well, you would just omit one pair of devices, I would keep all the bias parts installed and run each board from its own derived voltages.

Up to you, just let me know. I would consider parting with four boards, but getting feedback from someone using the boards in a build is what I would like 🙂

The idea of making a stereo amp disappeared completely, must be mono-blocks 😀

You should have seen the postman carrying this box on his shoulders, was fun😀
Hope these big R-cores don't hum like all my big toxoid's do, they surely will give a nice vintage look amplifier, together with the TO-3 cans.

what chassis are you planning to use for monos?

WalterW I think that you will be pleasantly surprised on the hum front. I cannot use any big torroids due to mechanical hum in my system (must have lots of DC on the mains maybe), but I use 2 300VA Selectronic R-Cores in my VFET part 1 and another one in my bass amp (dual LM4870) with absolutely no mechanical hum at all. Love them!

I will use a cable to connect to the output stages. Thanks again for the offer!
Now I decided to make mono blocks I will make my own chassis and OS- PCB's.
I must stop building amplifiers, so this last one must be a nice slow build to enjoy longer...

they really look fine !.!.!
and i heard only good things about the trannies from selectronic and
their prices are reasonable too and R-core´s are the best anyways, so
i wanna have some for myself, but since their website only
speaks francaise, i wonder if they ship to outside france, but you got them,
so Selectronic do ship to the rest of the world.
did you had any problems ordering at their site ? did you use
google-translate or something ?

Yes, they do ship to foreign countries. Don't know if they ship overseas, but to Europe they do.
The website is only French, but here in Holland we get 3 years basic French at school, so most of the words I understand, and for some I used Goolgle translate indeed 😀
They have a nice 30% discount on the 24V 500VA R-cores now so you have to be quick. I paid only 83 Euros a pieces. Shipping is standard 14 Euros.

Worked with them many times in the past, google translate works just fine.

My question is: do we really need 2 X 500VA for both channels.

Nelson's SONY tribute amp was bigger and did not have that i think .

Selectronic also has 300VA ones.

Selectronic products are stamped Lille France but this is only marketing trick
they are not made in Europe they are from Asia probably India
hope they are good transformers 🙂
