Mrshazbot,
What boxes are your MA 10p in? How would you compare the Sonidos to the Markaudios since you've been listening to them for over a year?
I'm interested in the Sonidos and have the MA 10p in a 17 liter Bass Reflex box, so your input might convince me to get the Sonido's.
Using the picture in post#39, I estimated that your Sonido's are 6 feet apart. How far are you sitting from your speakers?
BTW are you still using the BSC on the Sonidos?
Thanks

Bianchi,
The MA 10p drivers are in box designed by planet10. The 10ps sound awesome and the enclosure has really good low bass but I wanted a little more because I listen to electronic music sometimes and the bass gets a bit lower. I built a sub, but it was hard to integrate with the sub because of the 10ps already low bass. I also wanted a bit more sensitivity.
The Sonidos sound fantastic and I still listen to them 100% of the time. They don’t go as low, so it works better with my sub. The Sonido also is much more crisp and clear on the high end. My unprofessional description of how each sounds is that 10p is soft and sweet while Sonido is crisp and clear, perhaps because they are brighter. The listening window is wider with the 10p whereas the Sonidos have a small window to sit in order to get perfect imaging, but when you get it set up properly, boy those speakers completely disappear.
The speakers are about 6 feet apart and I sit about six feet away so almost an equilateral triangle. Here is a video that shows it a bit better.
Music Room Walkthrough
I’m still using the BSC that I previously posted.
I recently built a Purifi stereo amp and I am very impressed the amount of detail from the Sonidos when used with a low distortion amp.
thanks

Mrshazbot,
My MA 10p are being assisted with a REL T5X subwoofer crossover set at about 90Hz and they integrate just fine. I tried at different setting and 90Hz seems to work the best.
I noticed in your video your sub is in the middle of the speakers, did you try placing it in a corner? I've got mine one foot from the back and side wall.
Not sure I'd be willing to spend the money on the Sonido's knowing that they are bright. That's the problem with DIY, you can't audition the drivers before buying.
BTW you did a great job on those speakers...I like the badge.

If you wanted to try them, you could always take the top end down with a shelving filter if you felt it OTT, or try listening a little further off-axis, which can often help bring things a bit more into line.
Yes I tried placing the sub in different spots and it worked best in the middle but only if I sit in the middle of the couch.
The BSC fixes the rising high end, or as Scott and others said, you can tow the speakers in or out to listen to it off axis.
I really like the sound of the Sonidos and I think they are totally worth the $$.

I like the smoothness of the MA 10p, not sure I would be able to tolerate the brightness, as you described it, of the Sonido's.
I think I'll have a hard time finding something to beat the 10p's. MOAP 10 or MOAP 11 perhaps??? Haven't read any reviews paired with low wattage tube amplification.

The “vintage” top end of the A10p is decidely appealing to some listeners. Often the attempt to get a large cone to do extended (and flat) HF response leads to HF ringing that some people have trounel listening thru.

Dave,
Can you educate us (me) on how to read that Burst Decay graph and why are you showing the graph for the Markaudio CHR 120?

The Burst decay has periods as the time axis. If a driver was “perfect” the top line woud be fairly flat and the spacing of each curve is even. Further, any ringing shows the same shape for the same Q so the Q if the resonances can be compared.
The CHR-120 was just because it was readily availabke and clearly shows sme signifcant ringing at about 3.5, 5.5, 8KHz, the stuff higher up is not bad and the bit below 1Khz is the transition from pistonic to chaotic behaviour. The big ridges in the graph are where the chaos gets out of control.
The A10p deals with this by heavily damping the cone leading to the vintage, non0fatiguing top.

Hello Kevin,
Hope you are still enjoying those Sonido SFR 175A. I haven't decided which driver to go with for my end game bookshelf speaker but my research has brought me back to the Sonido's. I have a few questions for you:
1) Are the SFR 175A bright and fatiguing? I have sensitive ears and tinnitus but, I can listen to the Alair10p for a long time without fatiguing.
2) There are mixed comments on whizzer cones. What are your thoughts.
3) How is the soundstage and imaging?
BTW How do you access the free downloads on the Wodendesign site? I see many free plans floating around this site but haven't been able to see them on Woden's.

A lot of them are here: http://wodendesign.com/Free.html
Others are scattered all over.

Dave,
I saw those plans. The ones I was inquiring about were at....wodendesign.com/downloads....but that extension doesn't bring you anywhere.
I was curious to see if there were other Sonido plans.

We have only done an ML-TL for the 6x9.
The wodendesign.com/downloads/ link only works if you have a specific plan URL.

Those are nice boxes, especially the standmount. Have you heard any Mark Audio speakers? If so,how would your drivers compare to the Mark Audio, ie Alpair12p?
bianchi, Yes, there are many other plans for the SONIDO SFR 175/A driver. Please write to me in personal email: info@sonido.hu , I give you all the plans and recommendations.
