Something to lighten the mood

Before leaving Ireland I had an Audi Super 90. Same problem and a replacement alternator was priced at a very high sum. Did some research (pre Google days) and found that the exact same alternator by Bosch was fitted to some Volvos - at approx. 75% less money. Guess what I bought.

I would go with 9V as well.

I had a 55 Cheve Belair with a 235 6Cyl back in the early 70s. Returning to Memphis from Columbia SC (Millington NAS) where I was attending A School in the NAVY, my generator died over 20 miles out as the sun was setting. I made it to the parking lot at the base and the engine died as I stopped.

<Ding ding ding!> Norgaard hits the mark at 8 VDC, with a plausible explanation as a bonus!

And yes Mr_Z, it played out pretty close to what you envisioned.

Everything was fine, until it wasn't. Took less than a mile to go from normal. to ABS & airbag lights, then the transmission began to shift in & out of NEUTRAL at 65 MPH, a little unsettling to be sure.

I made it to the next exit ramp but had to stop at the red light at the foot of it - and that was all she wrote. What followed were several examples of contemporary human sociology that got a little weird at times but were mostly positive and reaffirming, I'm happy to report. I can elaborate if anyone's interested.

Hint #2: We're talking volts here fellas, not miles. 🤓
Sorry. That’s what I get for multitasking!

Edited, because I posted while multitasking - again!

But I’m glad you were at least able to make it to an exit. That would certainly lighten my mood; most of the places I drive have exits spaced much further than 2 or 3 miles!
