So something like 11V?Hint #2: We're talking volts here fellas, not miles. 🤓
I know it happened to me one night before a long weekend. I had a hill to park on and drove for days without an alternator. Eventually mr. spark wouldn't come out to play. The funny thing is I probably measured it at the time.
Before leaving Ireland I had an Audi Super 90. Same problem and a replacement alternator was priced at a very high sum. Did some research (pre Google days) and found that the exact same alternator by Bosch was fitted to some Volvos - at approx. 75% less money. Guess what I bought.
Ok @Jim the Oldbie wild guess 9V?
I guess everything has to work in the middle of winter with a low voltage on starting with a tired battery and super viscous cold oil.

If it was the belt that broke, and that belt also served the water pump i guess you get a few miles at mst.
I would go with 9V as well.
I had a 55 Cheve Belair with a 235 6Cyl back in the early 70s. Returning to Memphis from Columbia SC (Millington NAS) where I was attending A School in the NAVY, my generator died over 20 miles out as the sun was setting. I made it to the parking lot at the base and the engine died as I stopped.

I hired my Vietnamese wife's two brothers about a month ago.
So far it's been a Nguyen, Nguyen situation.
I know some of you will get it. 🙂

If it was the belt that broke it wouldnt cost that much, and could have been done the first evening. Unless they charge 400 for an Audi belt too.If it was the belt that broke, and that belt also served the water pump i guess you get a few miles at mst.
I'd expect it to be closer to the relay drop out voltage - on typical automotive 12V relays thats 8V might even be 7.2 on some. With losses etc. +0.5 to 1VThat's where I started to worry, but nope!
On a "mordern" car you'd more often than not be cut off long before that.....
But cut it off and it's game over.
It could still be worse
I am into the eco thing and will definitely get me an electric car. But as we have no place to charge the batteries, I will buy a diesel-generator to charge them.
<Ding ding ding!> Norgaard hits the mark at 8 VDC, with a plausible explanation as a bonus!
And yes Mr_Z, it played out pretty close to what you envisioned.
Everything was fine, until it wasn't. Took less than a mile to go from normal. to ABS & airbag lights, then the transmission began to shift in & out of NEUTRAL at 65 MPH, a little unsettling to be sure.
I made it to the next exit ramp but had to stop at the red light at the foot of it - and that was all she wrote. What followed were several examples of contemporary human sociology that got a little weird at times but were mostly positive and reaffirming, I'm happy to report. I can elaborate if anyone's interested.

Sorry. That’s what I get for multitasking!Hint #2: We're talking volts here fellas, not miles. 🤓
Edited, because I posted while multitasking - again!
But I’m glad you were at least able to make it to an exit. That would certainly lighten my mood; most of the places I drive have exits spaced much further than 2 or 3 miles!

Everyone knows the letters WWW.
What it's short for?
World Wide Web
WWW has nine syllables
World Wide Web has three.
It's not really short for anything is it?
