I am a Midlander.
You certainly don't fit the perceived image of a Midlander, Steve! 😊
No idea what you talking about, chrisb.
As a severely autistic person with a Genius IQ we certainly warm to Penny Mordaunt (Conservative MP for Portsmouth North):
Whatever is She up to? She certainly is putting on a serious face. I used to guard her office. 'Nuff said. 😉

Dammit if that isn't "Flick (Felicity) Drummond" in the background.
Former Conservative MP for mine own Constituency of Portsmouth South:
Now given the safe seat of the Meon Valley, Hampshre by the awful right wing 1922 Committee. The Tories always self-destruct. This is a CATFIGHT! 🙂

In the 20s... brrr..... it's colder in summer than in winter?
Every year we make the pilgrimage to the Great North West for Christmas.
Every year we freeze our butts. The last two years have been horrendous... drove through an ice storm in Portlandia and almost ditched in Centralia... year before we were stuck on top of the hill.. our AWD could not take us thru a solid sheet of ice on more than a foot of snow.
Often, in summer we go for the 4th and we tell ourselves we ought to buy a second home... then come Christmas we remember WHY we haven't done it all these 35 years.
BC is even colder.
East of BC gets downright COLD. Nevermind places like Alberta, Quebec, Minnesota, etc.... brrrrrrRRRRRR....
Hawai'i was nice. Moving from Honolulu to SeaTac... as we started our descent the captain told us it was "raining and the high for the day had been 55F". You could hear the whole cabin of the 707 moan.... it had been 80F at 10AM when we left O'ahu. Sunny. October...
Summer time it does get hot in the NW.... days are long... but it's still nicer than... Alberta, Quebec, Minnesota, etc...

Winter is a boring slog for most of us in the Northern regions I suppose. No sea swimming, Cycling isn't much fun. We get a horrible DAMP cold in the UK... it's hard to dress for.
I am always struck by how much greener the midlands are than the south. This weekend was genuinely warm and sunny at last. Finally shed the jumpers.
I was visiting my niece in the East Midlands, Leicestershire. Lovely! It is SO quiet. She even has a bearable outdoor pool set up for the children. 15C was OK and I did 15 minutes..
View from front garden:
These people live well!

All except where the people live of course. That tiny little corner of the province where the warm winds blow.BC is even colder.
BC = British California
Our weather is not that different from San Francisco. We are:
A little wetter
A little cooler
A little more humid
Fewer sunshine hours
Not too bad considering we are 1,200 kms north of them.
Vancouver and Seattle are nearly the same.
Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.
I bought some new golf balls that will actually go right into the hole if you get them within six inches.
Note to self: Don't carry them in your back pocket.

I know what you mean. The Relatives were relentlessly yakking about this and that. That and checking their mobile phones...
Bores me! But I try to be a good listener, which is the trick IMO.
I took a Jeeves and Wooster book for the train journey, and it was about visiting Aunt Dahlia's Country House, so was appropriate.
Laugh out loud funny!
I am old enough to get the 1930s topical jokes too. 😀

Anything North of the Santa Ynez Valley feels like Alaska to me.. in the winter.
The coldest winter I ever felt was a summer day in San Francisco. -when the fog comes in.
The mild climate of the Pacific Northwest coast is a result of tropical ocean currents.
Things get much colder as you venture inland.
The current brings other treasures too, like glass fishing floats from Japan, the holy grail for the young beach combers of my day.
