Galu, I confess I am one too. On this side of the pond, it's not a bad term, nor designation. Colour me confused.
It is commonly used around here. Young and old, male and female. It is isn't spelled out, it's simply used to describe an attractive older woman that isn't necessarily a cougar. Quite relaxed about it we are.

The acronym may be regarded as offensive, perhaps not to Steve, but because it reduces a woman to being a sex object and a mother.
I think it all started with the movie "American Pie", which some find amusing.
Anyhoo, I don't really care. I'm really quite broadminded, or haven't you noticed? 😀

The evolution of a language as my dear Mother used to say. She was an English Major in Uni.
So many things change.
Gay used to mean happy
Geek used to be derogatory
Faggot used to be something you brought home to help start the evening fire
Naughty used to mean without belongings
Gigolo was a male prostitute, oft employed by Cougars
MILF used to mean a mothered female for unbridled passion
Evolution.

For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, means many things other than the original and nowadays, there's nothing unlawful about it when used in proximity with the original.

Son: “Mom, can I get $20?”
Mom: “Does it look like I’m made of money?”
Son: “Well, isn’t that what M.O.M stands for?”

I can only tell you what I know. 🙂
In the course of today's investigations of the true nature of reality, me and Mummy Tourist hit it off a storm. Her eyes positively glowed when I told her about the cheap local tickets available from "Wave 105 FM". A local Radio Station.
I mentioned our "Tai Chi" and swimming class available tomorrow at the "Coffee Cup" venue. For a mere £5. She mentioned she was planning a trip to the "Isle of Wight".
Well. OK, I opined. See Queen Victoria's notorious Pleasure Palace full of Erotica.
Ah, well, Tomorrow is another Adventure. FWIW, Horse "Off The Planet" came last an incredible 106 L behind the Winner. I think they nobbled it with Scotts Porridge. 😕
However, my regular little earner "PYLEDRIVER" has a last run in Germany to come. Once the ground gets heavy, bet on a nag with a big backside. 😀

Is this oversimplifying... conflating natural language evolution with the normalising of crossing boundaries?Evolution.
The Portsmouth Mountbatten Pool was an embarrassing design disaster.
It was a centimeter or so short of Olympic standard 50m. Thus Portsmouth never got the Olympic swimming. It is capable of raising the floor from 2m to a more comfortable 1.5m, and the centre partition can be lowered.
But it won't stretch that centimeter or so. Reason for the mess up, was the designer miscalculated the thickness of the ceramic tiles. The Lifeguard told me that. 🙂
