Something to lighten the mood

75% red, 15% green, 10% blue LEDs worked for me, I modified a LED flood lamp from all white to colored 3W LEDs.

You can play around with the ratios for different plants, and I see now that ready grow lights from major companies are available.

Outdoors under real sunlight is usually best because of the uniformity of the "power strength"... Meaning that the bottom parts of the plant receive as much light "power" as the top.

If you use lamps to illuminate your plants you have to pay attention to that... because the plants tend to get spindly and top heavy.

My daughter has a some compound LED grow light bars that do quite well for her orchids and other tropical plants... but she uses them to add some additional light in the winter for plants she has by the window. And the plants are squat and the lights are almost touching the tips.

I hope all this talk about lights is lightening lots of moods.

It's making me feel festive!

My doctor is very pro cannabis. It's an integral part of my regimen. It helps with chronic pain, insomnia and sleep problems, and it really helps me concentrate when I'm working on something or designing a circuit.

It helps with depression too. Depression is a common side effect of vision loss. I was afraid I was going to become useless as my vision faded. The thought was enough to trigger a bad case of the blues. But I have worked very hard to overcome the handicap and I can't believe my success to adapting. I do housework, shopping, yardwork, daily walks of 5-6 miles, no problem at all (until they move stuff around in the store anyway). And I got a ton of help from friends, the community, and my doctor.

One of my newer friends is an 84 year old man with cancer. He is very active and mentally as sharp as a tack. It makes all the difference in his quality of life. He's very devoted to his grandchildren and has an incredible amount of energy to deal with them. He puts me to shame!

It's foolish to ignore the medicinal potential of cannabis. The prohibition is beyond absurd and harmful. Our nervous system is full of cannabinoid receptors. That means we evolved with cannabis. And anyone that understands chemistry knows that the presence of those cannabinoid receptors presents a plethora of pharmaceutical opportunities. What are we waiting for?

I realize that in such matters that I can only speak for myself. I absolutely love the stuff, an yet it is the worst thing that I can do on more than one level. It is great for relaxing a mind such as mine, but my mind stays relaxed and I am not worth anything for days. Did it for 5 years. Yup sharp as a hammer alright. Man, if you think that I could do just a little bit now and then, your as dumb as me for believing it too.
Can't touch the stuff.

Not everybody can. Some can use pretty much anything recreationally and nothing happens except being stoned. Others take one hit of the hard stuff and it causes addiction that ruins his life. And the pot will lead to the harder drugs more quickly for him. It can be a slippery slope.

Consider yourself lucky if you can smoke pot and continue to be fully functional. Personally I won’t touch the stuff. I can get “stoned” without illegal drugs and know from experience how addictive my drugs of choice are (for me) and can extrapolate pretty well. I won’t take the chance - I grew up around people who couldn’t handle drugs without falling into the pit of Hell from it and want to avoid that fate. If it means avoiding pot when it might have been harmless so be it.

Marijuana is without a doubt not for everyone. There are some people that have a bad reaction to it, including schizophrenics. Many drugs are like this, including alcohol. There is a minority of the population that lacks the enzyme to digest alcohol, and people that lack this enzyme have a very low tolerance and can even have an allergic reaction; I knew a person with this affliction.

With legal marijuana, follow guidelines (including talking to your doctor). For old timers, it's way more potent than it was the 1970s-80s. I'm chronic (almost 50 years of use) and I can still get too intoxicated by today's marijuana. And I am extremely lucky that I can still be fully functional from very moderate use (all I need or want) because it augments my health regime.

The grow lights were installed inside a translucent room with double wall polycarbonate sheets and a hydroponics setup, the idea was to increase the duration of 'sunlight' for the exotic (English and African) salad vegetables, they got sunlight for about 10 hours a day in winter.

Like all mind bending drugs / alcohol, individual response varies a lot, and that changes over time.
In my own case, I was a regular drinker in college, then shifted to a dry state...now 330 ml of beer will put me to drunken sleepy state. Earlier it would take more than a liter of beer to do that...admittedly our beer is very high in alcohol compared to what is sold elsewhere.

All I can say is take care, and see that others are not put at risk by your actions.

Getting stoned?

Bah..

I'm so macho I had to get the Mucho Macho XA252 SIT because the Sissy SIT was messing around with my audiophile testosterone laden cojones.

¡Ay caramba!

Macho... Macho.... I don't need no badges, I don't need no pot... just a little bit of vino (drink less nowadays) and Señor Tony es El Señor Mas Macho...

¿Quien es mas macho?
¿Elliot Ness? ¡No! ¿Lloyd Bridges? ¡¡Nope!! ¿Señor Ricardo Moltaban? Well, close but ¡No !

Señor Tony es mas macho... he no need no stinkin' pot you see.

¡ Olé !

There.

How are my actions putting people at risk? I haven't driven in at least three years. And if I did, it would be my vision putting people at risk.

Rag on drunk drivers. That's a huge problem here. I've heard that at "prime time" (Saturday night/early Sunday morning) that up to half the drivers on the road are impaired by alcohol.

However, if you were a bag of Doritos, then a stoned person in your vicinity could pose a very grave danger.

I don't miss traffic. There's a lot of traffic in my neck of the woods.

Cars cost a whole lot of money to operate. I didn't realize! I couldn't afford to operate a car now, and maintain my house. That is a much better investment. The house has been going up at least $1K/month in value for years.

I saw one Dr. talking about pot and heart disese. The age of the user
was verry inportant say the risk of disese in a 18 year old who used was
about 20% higher than a non user. But this relitive risk got higher till a
35 year old had a risk about 350% higher than a non user but after 35 years
of age the relative risk slowly decreased till at 65 there was no increase in
risk compaired to a non user. But then after age 65 using started to show
some cardio protection to the point where a 80 year old who used was 80%
less likely of having a heart attack than a non user. I may be off a little about
those figures.

That's very interesting.

My cardiovascular health has greatly improved after an almost fatal incident about three years ago. I get yearly thoracic CT scans and in two year's time there has been no changes. I don't cough or gasp for breath like I used to either. I worked very hard to achieve this; my life pretty much revolves around diet and exercise. I monitor my biometrics and this helps me greatly.

This is a second lease on life for me. If I had continued eating and smoking cigarettes like I was then I would surely be dead by now. After experiencing a major pulmonary embolism, I lost all desire to smoke cigarettes. The doctor gave me a long list of things I had to do with the ultimatum do or die.

The diet was the hardest part but it got easier. It's still hard when I go out and there's lots of bad stuff to eat. I won't even eat a single cookie or French fry. It's not worth it. Many restaurants don't have a single item on the menu I can eat. It's little wonder Americans are so fat and wheezy.
