Extraordinary events in Chicago, Illinois a couple of days back. The Windy City. They held an annual Charity event for disabled athletes.
The Ducky Derby. Idea was you bought a plastic bathroom duck for a mere $5. Or 6 for $25. A DuckPack!
A truck dumped 75,000 plastic ducks in the River Columbus. Then maybe your duck drifted down the river and came first. In which case you won a car.

All ducks were collected at the end of the race for re-use next year. Or you could buy one as a souvenir, thus swelling the Charity coffers.
I thought that was brilliant. $300,000 raised for good causes. 😀

Yes, quite. They actually been around for decades and in many countries. Like you, I think they're a great way to fundraise. Not only that, they attract the crowds. Even those who don't have a vested interest.

They used to do this in Honolulu's Ala Wai canal when I lived there many years ago. The Ala Wai Canal is probably the most polluted body of water in the United States. It is loaded with bacteria from leaking or illegal sewer lines and it only seems to get worse over the years.

The dog is a slow swimmer, and there's no close cover, so they can see the hawk(buzzard,etc) coming.
A safe resting spot(also a free delousing bath with the chlorine).
