That’s even sillier than using Semisouth in the ACA![]()
How's the sound?
What is the recommended extra 3 to 6dB gain stage for autoformer based 11dB gain amp for who needs 15dB/18dB gain?
Do you guys mean another autoformer gain stage?
input-buffer-autoformer(+6dB)-buffer-autoformer(+12dB)-VFET(follower)-output
input-buffer-autoformer(+6dB)-buffer-autoformer(+12dB)-VFET(follower)-output

If I choose to use an opamp as a buffer (like M2x), how about opamp as a 6 dB gain stage instead, or any other ideas?
A. input-opamp(buffer)-autoformer(+6dB)-opamp(buffer)-autoformer(+12dB)
B. input-opamp(+6dB)-autoformer(+12dB)
C. other?

Don’t want to get off this threads topic...short answer is I don’t believe my system is optimized yet enough to make a judgement. My current drivers don’t have the efficiency necessary to take full advantage of the ACA, nor have I tried a preamp with any gain...only DCB1.
When I get things sorted I will be making comparisons between the Semisouth and both Vishal/Harris IRFP240 for giggles. That’s why I made sockets and remotely mounted the transistors.
Honestly, I’m not sure my old ears are capable of hearing a difference. It might be the same thing as asking someone what a new dish tastes like...”tastes like chicken”.

if you opt for OPamp , just make it with 6db gain and that's it
Thanks!!
I just called Reno and put myself "on the list".
I'm wondering if the SIT 3 has enough brass to drive the Feastrex 5dnf speakers?

On the list
Next week I get one of two new knees... So, I figured if they don't kill me, I should have something to live for. The Sit 3 will be that something. So damn the price, save the solder and step up to the plate.

I'm quiet confident it can after hearing Yeo driving his pair of Feastrex in Hedlund horn with just a couple of watts.

And that means that AER, Cube, Rethm, Lowther and Voxativ fans can add the SIT-3 to their list of prospective amp options. Happy days with another precious gift from master Nelson!
and Mighty ZM is adding - all those fans of something gutsier , as 8 or 10 or 12 or 15" Tannoy duals are ....... in fact entire universe of non FiFi speakers
The World is your Oyster , being one of 250 lucky ones , having speakers chosen by same amount of care
Tantric amp ; definitely orgasmic , but not sexual ....... and definitely without short prescribed use dosage
