....... and no one bothered to tell me. I also didn't see any Sin Bin entrys or explanations why the thread got killed. Maybe a moderator could Email me as to what happened?
"To be precised, I said my son would do a better layout job, not design job. Those are two different things. From what Fred's showing we can only comment on layout (and it is crap, btw). I can't comment on design, as I didn't see it yet. I hope you understand the difference.
I take your comments very much as insults as well." - famous amplifier designer FAD for any future references
Would the person being quoted here please explain the difference? I really don't understand the point you are trying to make.
BTW no hard feelings........ It seems your insults turn into endorsements for my point of view more often than not. I enjoy them for the entertainment value and don't want you to hold back, after all Mike K isn't here to rant at me anymore......... and I guess you'll have to do for now.
I did get a kick out fact that one of the forum members sent me his gain clone PCB layouts to look over for the addition of a Zobel network in the layout. Do you want his name so you can warn him? Perhaps it was only because he was afraid to mention the Z word on the forum ........ it being so controversial after all.

Mmm,
Since i did not have a clue what this was about, i paid a visit to texas. Looking at the pcb in post 1, maybe it looks a bit strange and not neat at first glance.
E.g. the traces on the right leaving from the third big pad from the bottom. It would LOOK better if just one trace would go to the left and then split up further on. But my guess is that it is designed this way to keep currents away from each other (powersupply?). I'm just GUESSING here, but my guess (again) is that somebody took care while routing this.
Also all the ground connections seem to be done at the centre of the pcb. Not a nice LOOKING solution, but probably better
for this application or just done to avoid lots of traces have to go the the edges of the pcb (resulting in the need for a double sided pcb or a lot of wires).
Starground with digital, errr dont think so. So it looks analog to me..
Traces all seem to fit on one side of the pcb, so i don't see a reason for double sided pcb. Why spend more $$$$??
My two cents from an engineer (have the degree) without much experience (sometimes make pcb's only for hobby)

Hi,
this design looks correct to me. (But I'm also poor PCB designer😉 )
Maybe, teflon instead of FR4... 😉
Why is whole original thread in Texas, Any?

Fred, I suggest that you and the "other" person go to your corners and take time out from each other.
I would also point out that I wasn't the one who moved your thread to Texas but I'm fully behind the decision.
I would also recommend you that you try to stick to technical issues rather than ... I don't know what. If you are proud over something you have done yourself, please show it. I think many of us are interested, me too infact.
Fred, try for one week not to get provoked, just turn the other cheak (...don't have the right expression). You will see how wonderful it is not to get out of balance. Just be 😎

Is this a moderator's warning or just a friendly point of direction from a fellow member?
Either way I would think that all involved should be getting it too. Not just Fred.. it ain't fair!
Chris

I think it's time for you to take some nice wine.
Forget about PCB for a while.
And, come back for the diyers who are thirsty.

Re: Re: Since my thread went to Texas.........
This post is official (whereas i think P-As was just a friendly note from a member). Fred's other thread went to Texas because it ended up being a flame-fest, with the tone of the original post a challenge setting the flavour of the whole thread. That it went should have been notice enuff.
If this thread goes in the same direction it will follow. Just chill Fred, go stand in a corner and put on a silly hat, flagellate yourself with wet noodles, go for a walk in the woods... Fortunately most members have not been very helpful to you in inciting a riot -- my compliments to them. To those that did get dragged in -- you know who you are, hopefully that is enuff, i hate dishing out more.

This was friendly suggestion for his well-beeing. I can garantee that he will feel better after one day or two.chris ma said:Is this a moderator's warning or just a friendly point of direction from a fellow member?

I have read the threads recently moved to Texas and I am
as puzzled as everybody else. If threads were regularly moved
for this type of content and discussion, I think
Texas would be overcrowded by now. I cannot help getting
a feeling that a moderator emeritus enjoys certain particular
favours.

I wouldn't call it a favour. I was actually pretty much surprised and disappointed, when after making my subsequent post, I found messsage that this thread doesn't accept any more posts. Too bad, as I had so much to say😉
I keep low key approach today, as I don't think it makes any sense repeating old news all over again.

When posts get reported by members a decision like this can be taken. I cannot help getting a feeling that some think we like to move threads and such things because we have nothing else to do.

To diyAudio Retiree
I don't know why you change your status to diyAudio Retiree. May I ask you does it mean that you don't feel yourself as a member in a good state, being down and out, in other words? Did the running on the Zobel spot bring you down? Should we ask moderators to create retirement home forum to discuss bedpans and accompanying items? 😀

To Fred and Peter
Guys, I don't know if this is an old story, but if it is, it doesn't make sense.
A year ago I contributed to the closing of a thread (not to Texas, closed!😱 ) because we (me and some other members) didn't agree with the oppinions other members.
It ended with attacks, and you know what?
I don't remember who it was.
And I don't care.
I talked to those members several times after that with no problem at all.
We just didn't agree on THAT matter.
This is nonsense, without knowing what's the PCB for, you can't say if it's good or not.
Sometimes a tight layout (a PCB as small as possible) may be good, and sometimes it may be very bad.
Components also interact with each other.

Maybe I read the previous thread sloppily, but I got the impression
that Fred was the one being attacked and insulted and he tried
to defend himself. That thread was closed because somebody
complained, but it obviously cannot have been either of the
main combattants who complained. Fred then started this thread
to get a chance to defend himself against the previous attacks
and got threatened that also this thread might be closed.
I have had som "fights" with Fred, where I have felt unjustly
treated or even insulted by him, and I have exercised my right
to defend myself against his attacks rather than run off and
complain to the moderators. Now it seems to me that Fred
was the one being attacked and just as I have used my
right to defend myself on previous occasions, I support
Freds right to defend himself when attacked, and in the
spirit of Voltaire I would do so even if I hadn't agreed with
his point of view.
(I might have misunderstood what actually happened though).

I don't know guys but the moderators are up to something, I looked at texas and I see a pattern.
Between the sponsors, Jason leaving and Audiofreak taking over, Peter becoming the rogue "fallen angel" of moderation this site is starting to feel 'different'.
Personally, I would have let this fire burn itself out.
Fred could certainly finish cleaning his pool, the problem is that Texas is so damn hot you don't get to enjoy it so much, right Fred?
Peter could go build more amps and take a little break, too.
I was sorry to see Jocko's Eng vs DIYers go, highly questionable decision from the mods.

Although I like hanging here sometimes, I have a very satisfying profession that keeps me very busy, and so does anyone else pretty much. My point? If you are a mod here, YOU _DONT_ HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO!!! 😉
