Shui Yuan Audio TPA3255 Modification Thread

Just a tip: if anything goes not like it should be then your amplifier will amplify anything it sees at the input to the max....At least I have experienced this with other peoples stuff (which I was to check/repair) and digital volume control of the source or DAC. The famous "odd bit" that somehow sets output volume of the DAC to max for instance. Family members that put volume to the max with Spotify etc. Other issue can be that volume is OK but loud clicks are heard when changing tracks etc. Also switching off the DAC while the power amplifier is still powered on might give unwanted effects.

Nothing goes wrong with a "real" volume control in between as the volume likely will be at normal levels. It acts like a kind of protection.

That's true. Hardware volume control provides a secondary protection against unforeseen volume surges.

I am playing with various volume control schemes for fun. One of them is the typical volume pot. I implemented mine with a 10k linear pot, and surprisingly it worked out pretty well.

I also implemented a discrete volume control using jumper caps. It had 4 possible volume levels. I believe it could be similar to a scheme mentioned by Claude, but cannot be sure. It also worked out well. Here is the drawing:

The smps PSU you are using is really bad I own it. It has a Bad ripple.

You should get a LLC with a good ripple and low noise.
The PSU has very important Impact in term of SQ

Can you provide any information on the Allo board? I assume you are a tester for them as the only acknowledgment about the board's existence I can find is from you.

Will it be in the same format as the existing Allo Volt boards? Specifically, will it be a standalone board or will there also be a version with standoffs to connect directly to their DAC boards? Also curious if this is a dual mono design. Sounds like this will be the widely available board to get.

Hi,
I am not specially a tester. But I am in touch with Allo's founder. All I can say for the moment : should be a finished amp with some innovations : Air Core inductors, ultra low noise PSU, new op amps, high Audio grade caps etc... The amplifier would use balanced inputs. I shared the measurements a few pages back...(It will be by far the best TPA3255 on the market)

I am waiting for the sample but the project is late, should get some news in a few days.🙂

Hi!

They begin to doubt their amps at 400 euros ...

Note: This product offers many features, only its design with integrated DSP does not offer the transparency sought by audiophiles. The analog input also goes through the DSP through an ADC. We recommend it for someone looking for a network amplifier that supports many music services and protocols with comfortable power, but without high fidelity requirements.

Better and better ... Audiophonics .... Long live the DIY !!!! 😛😛😛

Hi friend!
It's on the road .... but the follow-up is not easy ...
he left russia. May 9 ...
The weather is starting to be fine, nature is waking up ...
In short ... Lots of things to do ....
And when my wife and here... I have to do something other than tinker with my amps ... (it gets on this her nerves) ... 😕😕😀

So I'm trying to find a soic-8 to dip-8 adapter board since my squareish pins didn't fit, but I'm struggling a bit, not knowing what works and not. Has anyone a tip where to buy ones that work for this application?

Hi

Yes you are right - the square pins will destroy your IC Sockets as they are too big !!

You need the “round pin” headers. Normally come in strips of 40. Here is an example :-

10PCS/LOT Gold Plated 2.54mm Male 40 Pin Single Row Straight Round Pin Header Strip|header female|header bagstrip thermometer - AliExpress

And then you need the adapter boards. Loads of people selling these !! Something like this :-

50PCS SOP8 SO8 SOIC8 TO DIP8 Interposer board pcb Board Adapter Plate hot diy electronics|Integrated Circuits| - AliExpress

It's a bit expensive ... but authentic. SOIC-8 to DIP Adapter - BrownDog Adapters - 970601

Enjoy!
