Rohde & Schwarz UPD - HELP! Need docs, files & repair advice

R+S have never made service manuals for any of their analysers available, to my knowledge. UK customers (for example) have their AAs shipped to Germany for repair, despite the paperwork due to the stupidity of Brexit. They don't even trust the UK R+S office, so I don't think they will publish service manuals any time soon! I would LOVE to be wrong!

Since this is one of the very few UPD threads on the web I hope it is not out of order to resurrect.
I know about the "Restore to Glory" thread, but found this thread to be most fitting. If this is bad etiquette here, please let me know. 🙂

Currently I am on a deep dive into all the secret workings of this golden oldie.
My UDP is a later model with color display, low distortion generator (-B1), AES/EBU (-B2), audio monitor (-B5), BASIC interpreter(-K1).
Base hardware is a 486 33MHz CPU on an ECS UM486V main board with 4Mb RAM.

Last weekend I cloned the hdd to a faster 120Gb drive with Symantec Ghost 5 as a proof of concept. Right now I am waiting for a 1Gb disk on module. The old UM100 V2.2 AMI BIOS still has a 504Mb HDD limitation, but any IDE hdd seems to work if the partition is <504Mb.
I also installed a Novell NE2000 networking card to make exchanging data a bit more convenient in the future. Setting up drivers and maybe installing Win 3.11 for work groups is still on the to do list.

Over the past I could gather and archive a bunch of ressources:
  • UPD Service Manual Vol.1 (1030.7551.24, PDF EN) ----->>> (desperately looking for Vol.2!)
  • UPD Operating Manual (1030.7551.11-09-, hardcopy DE)
  • UPD Operating Manual (1030.7551.19-04-, PDF EN)
  • UPD Operating Manual (1030.7551.19-11-, PDF EN ) newer version for UPD Software 3.05
  • Basic Interpreter Manual (376.1546.31-02-), hardcopy DE)
  • various application notes as hardcopy / PDF
Slight OT, but if anyone needs them, I also have the UPL Service Manuals Vol. 1 & 2 as EN PDF.

Now on to the nitty gritty:
Since I have the B2 hardware installed, I am interested in activating the B22 jitter option, but I could not find any real information on how to do it.
On the UPL, you can input serial numbers in the options menu, but on the UPD the process is different.
In the newest operating manual I have, there is a section «1.2.7 Fitting the Option Jitter(Interface Tester (UPD-B22)».
However, there is no further text - just the section headline. :/

If anyone knows about the install procedure: PLEASE let me know. Sure, I would still need a serialised activation key. For now I am couting on the similarities of the UPD and UPL in that regard. 🙂 There is a keygen for UPL options over on github and I could generate a bunch of keys with my UPDs serial number with it. At least it is worth a long shot in my opinion.
The procedure should also be documented in Vol. 2 of the service manual - and of course in the original accompanying document that came with the purchase - both of which seem to sadly never have touched the internet.
I already scraped through more or less all the char based files of the hdd and partly through the binaries with a hex editor without much luck. If anyone can give me some pointers, it is highly appreciated. My hunch is, that the option keys have to be stored in an (E)EPROM like with the UPL – I'll let you know, once I have figured that out.

Kind regards
Kormoran
