Rohde Schwarz R&S UPL Audio Analyzer Renovation

I am trying to do a disc clone from UPL original IDE disk to a CF card. Problem is the UPL has a 2GB partition and the Compact Flash card has only 512MB. Though, it's only 16MB in use of those 2GB so is there any PC application available that can clone a disc with a smaller target disc than source disc?
OR just easier buy a 4GB CF...

I did a discimage of the UPL HDD which is only 10MB.
Can I write this image to a 512MB CF somehow ?

I used Macrium reflect.

No, they are linked to the serial number of your unit.

I’ve heard that some people can generate those keys but haven’t been able to do it myself.

How can we test this further?

The key itself is blind.

Speculating that all the keys are stored within the hardware, however they are disabled.
Once you enter the correct key, the option is activated.

I tried figuring out these keys and how they work but with little success.

In the end i found some help from some smart guys on a couple of forums and have all keys applicable to my UPL.

I will not disclose any information here but you can always send a PM over.

Cheers,

Bart

"Per the information we received from tech support, we no longer have keycodes available and they cannot be generated or installed on the unit due to its age and because it’s been phased out."

If you know the algorithm you can generate all keys of your unit . It’s based on the serial number of the unit and the option code found in the manual.

I however couldn’t figure it out but there are some similar algorithms on other blogs but don’t work for the UPL

A couple of thermal images from an UPL with Socket 7 motherboard, Winchip C6. All stock.

Edit:

Temperatures now displayed but objects are not corrected for emisivity, run stock at 0.95. Values might not be accurate.

Glowing object in PSU section is the fuse.

Now I got myself a new DOS install.

When trying the UPL install after typing "uplinst" it complains about the time of file changed. "Corrupt"
Won't install.

Any advice?

EDIT: Could edit the uplinst batch file to skip the filecheck and then install could start. Unfortunately I get read errors all the time on those floppys. Had 10 and seems to be in bad shape. I have ordered a floppy to USB/SD emulator device which I hope could help me to do the install properly.

OK. I replaced the floppy drive to a gotek USB floppy emulator and managed to install it all without read errors.
I got a working DOS, then installed UPL setup 3.06 disk 1 and UPL application installed.
It detected a replaced HDD and I choose permanent (key 1) and it all installed.
At some point it complained about "missing filter coffecient" or similair, don't know why.
I then installed UPL setup disk 2, maybe the missing filterfile installed from disk 2.

After a while it was finished and UPL restarted, seems to operate correctly.
So - does it sound normal ? The reference calibration files, I guess it were copied over to the new HDD then and it all should work as normal, right ?

Hi,

That all sounds like it should be.

When you got the filter error, was it with a certain setup/sac file? Has it happened since?

If you check the ref folder it should be filled with your calibration files.

If your unit is in pristine technical condition and you want serious and accurate measurements,
you might wannt to try their factory (manufacturer) calibration.

Per se is more than a calibration as they tweak adjustments and perform updates / repairs if needed.

Cost is >1K Euro, but you can something nice back.

I am not going to send it R&S for calibration. I can do quite much myself by running it back to back with my Audio Precision ATS-2 and measure the deviation.
Also, R&S has stopped offer repairs to the UPL for some years, I was in contact with them to hear about options availability but the response was clearly that all selling of options and repairs are not longer available.
