Resurrecting a Crown DC300A

Hi Shawn,
Looking pretty good. Are those Miller inductors?

It's coming together Chris. I don't know 'bout Miller. I purchased them from a reseller, not a disti. I measured them before stuffing them, they're OK.

I enjoy going to the One-of-a-kind show. It was more fun in the early years. Glen Williams is very close to me, wonderful area for artisans. If you haven't made it up here, I recommend it highly. More fun in the summer on a Saturday when you can hit the farmer's market as well. You can buy Moose sometimes.

So when is that craft show on this year?

Cool. What market Chris? Those things can be great. The city has it's own stuff down here but it just isn't the same as a rural market and my Dad is infamous for his blend of beef and moose for the "Ralphie" burger! He's out east in a little town.🙂

I think The One of a Kind Show has a November and December show coming. December for certain. :xmastree:

Shawn.

Good Times

The set is coming together. I'm missing a few resistors, transistors and caps, not much really. The biggie was the 10 pcs I'm short on the output MJ21194 and that may take another week to sort out. But I can fire it up soon on one channel and add the rest as it may. Perhaps it is better this way?

The bashers

Sir, do you never sleep? (Terrific work BTW, you even have an old Crown basher like me looking forward to how it turns out.)

HEY!!!!
I am the formost Crown basher here!
I'm still thinking how good its going to look as its sinking into the cold dark water.

Folks, I was offered a free DC150 today with one channel dead. I left the chap a voice mail saying I could pick it up anytime...? The saga could be endless?

Fixing one of those up might make you guys call the amplifier police over to my place? :cop:

Meanwhile, the DC300 is looking pretty cool.

As I'm typing this the guy with the DC150 called. I'm off to pick it now.😀

Cheers,

Shawn.

Hi Shawn,

That's great news! Now you only need another DC300.

You are doing a great job. Unlike myself, you are actually constructing.

Hi Joe,
As usual, thank you very much. 😉

BTW, Mr. anatech??? I used to work for a living! 😀

"I was offered a free DC150 today "

A very rare beast indeed, as Crown never made one.
(they did make a D150)

A very marginal design with only one pair of outputs on ±50V, at least the DC300A had four pair of outputs for its slightly higher voltage.

Dc150

djk is "on the ball".

I went to pick up the DC150 and took home a D150 instead. :xeye: It's like new and the case has just a few scuffs. Virtually the same quasi circuitry as the 300 but indeed a thin output section as djk commented.

Cheers,

Shawn.

Hi djk,
Well, I'm asleep at the switch. I knew they made a smaller one and the model number "sounded" okay. I have never seen one of those for service. Oddly enough, I may have sold some so many years ago.

One pair of outputs for a supply of 50 VDC is normal in consumer amps. I don't think that was intended for more than houses or mid / high drivers in a biamp system.
