Print, shapes, legs, don't look suspicious. What about that BL2C in the middle with already connected G-S legs? Maybe that one so not to break the alike batch duet and quad.
I got it to work! 5.41v is close enough for buffalo II DAC. Thanks for your help, I couldn't have done it without you.
One green led was broken (had a second one) and I decided to remove Rx

Nice. How much Vf across the new Green LED in circuit?
It's the Kingbright green led from your kit, so 1.921 I suppose. Haven't measured it.
Sound is definitely different with jfet. Not sure which I prefer yet.

When the BL JFET replacing R6 is connected like this in the attachment it provides more mA than usual to the LED and to the mirror transistors. So Vf and Vbe go up alone and combined. I would have expected two Green LEDs to be needed for over 5V total whatever the mA.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I did use two green LEDs. Just used a second one from another build as on led was broken. So your calculations are right. The soundstage is more distant and analytical now.
All well then. Yes, its a different sound. Resistor is passive, less internal gain more tubey but still open due to no pF added, active JFET gives much more internal gain but some pF, sounds more laboratory accurate if bit more technical.
Depends on how you want to mix those different effects in a system. Which one is the more synergistic in an occasion.

Well described. Not sure I like it with a Sabre 9018 DAC which is already clinical. Perhaps time for an AK or an other DAC? 🙂
Will give it a bit more time...

If you want best resistor sound put 1k Z-Foil R6. Else for active "R6" flavors try more low noise JFETs, like 2SK117GR and PF5102 from Tea. Those have less gm (yfs) but also less pF than K170BL. Vout will probably need some new small trimming in each case.
Thanks for the tips. Will experiment more in the future. Have the feeling some bass is missing with the jfet, however there is more depth and dynamics. Stereo image is narrower than before. Will let the components/ soldering settle for a week (and give my hearing time to adapt 😉 ) before changing anything.
Thanks again for your help and insight.

Is the reflektor mini essentially the reflektor d with the jfet mod and opportunity to use 4 pole caps?
Yes, your description is valid. Made to can be externally sinked only (chassis usually) plus its spread across two boards. One for rectification, one for reg. 4Wire output option is also missing.
Its a small form factor reg to can arrange it near the loading application board when space is crammed. Its rectification board (named Flexy) accepts two pole or four pole reservoir capacitor. Can be mounted at a handy distance. It can support more than one Ref-D Mini units.
