IMHO the torque you can apply with hands is usually enough
Disagree. You need the connection there to be airtight AND it has to stay airtight despite the high vibration.
There is a concept of too much torque. Airtight is what you want, but too much pressure and you can end up with a cold weld which is quite difficult to then reverse - has happened on at least two occasions to people I know. The jagged teeth on 'audiophile' posts can make the situation quite a bit worse. They mash down, lose their shape and bond tightly with the spade.
I usually tighten until the reverse movement of a spade or wire does not result in the post loosening itself. Which means torque it till the spade cannot be moved when the same amount of pressure is applied to it as you applied to tightening the post. It's not an exact method, but it works well enough for me. Wires obviously do not cold weld. A good post should also grip a banana well, but this is usually just about getting the hole size correct.

Best price/perfomance I have had are these
speaker amplifier terminal high purity copper gold plated solderless terminals formula macaque banana jack terminals Amplifier-in Terminals from Electrical Equipment & Supplies on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group
I'm so lucky, that I can't hear a difference in binding posts, so I only rely on good mechanical quality. These binding posts have a really good feeling, they a solid made and can take thick cables with no problems.
I also have cheaper binding posts, but these are more flimsy build (but much cheaper)

If you're really serious about your connectors use Hypertac
Smiths Connectors - Hypertac, IDI and Sabritec Brands - Smiths Connectors
I would worry if such a small thing as a connector could have an audible change, measurable definitely, audible very unlikely....
Here is a guide to wiring and such like that MAY get audiophile approval, it was written by rocket scientists🙂

I just use these:
Red 4mm PANEL MOUNT Socket | Banana | Plugs, Sockets & Adaptors | Interconnect | PRODUCTS | PS0406 | Jaycar Electronics
with the output wire soldered directly onto the socket thread.
And these
24 BFA 4mm Banana Plugs Z Type FIT Arcam Cyrus Linn NEW | eBay
_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Minimum mass, ultra short signal path and cheap. Easy clean by removing and re-inserting the plug a couple of times. You can maintain the banana's tight fit by inserting a blade in the gap and slightly widening it. However this is not usually necessary unless you are constantly removing and re-inserting.
In comparison I find spades to be a total PITA. YMMV.

+1 on hypertac, they are wonderful if you can afford them.
@sangram: why is a cold weld bad? for most of use you connect speakers and leave them there for years. Having a cold weld would seem to be an advantage in the average use case.

I like speakon... are they audiophile accredited though🙂
I specify a lot of hypertac, but can never seem to get samples (I have tried), though changing a recent design from 4 rigid and two flexis to a flexi rigid removed hundreds of pounds worth of hypertac from the BOM as well as improving EMC immunity, signal integrity etc...

Why do Eichmann and WBT Nexgen both brag their lack of threads in the signal path
For proper performance, clockwise threads are required in the northern hemisphere and counter-clockwise in the southern, requiring double tooling for manufacture. Eliminating threads altogether circumvents this additional cost. It's nothing more than a cynical cost cutting excercise.

Because they think their customers are stupid.
On speakers would the slight extra parasitics added by the connector have any influence on the sound... especially if you have a crossover in the speaker.
looking round further there seems to be some "views" on connectors...Hmmmm!

Can you try to scrap plating from a zone that you will solder later?
If you see yellow metal it's brass, the more the color is similar to red copper the higher the copper content.

I use them too, excellent bananas.

Can you point me to those statements? I've tried to find them with no luck.
Thanks in advance.
These sound excellent. About $60 for set of 4. Pure thin copper tube, gold plated. They make a tight connection. I buy them from GR Research.
They seem an excellent choice. Interesting.
how would silver plating perform?
Buying brass clamps and getting them silver plated locally may be a solution.
Some cables are made with silverplated copper strands ( different from tinned copper strands).
The silver on the strands should be the same as the silver used for the plating, silver is silver after all.

Some great stuff!!!!! Including
Now call me picky, but wouldn't some basic understanding of how signals propagate be an advantage to designing electronic connectors, just a thought...
It does seem to be getting sillier.

Moving an electron from point A to point B without varying it. Keep the electron intact through its entire transition from one component to the next
