So, after all the discussion about the presence or absence of year zero.... Are we going to get a run-down of the final results of the judging of the SPEAKER EVENT?
I am sorry I that I didn't make it this year - or to Vancouver Island - its just been one of those years where things don't fall into place.
'til next time,
Edward

You're sorry you didn't make it?
So am I, but at least you've made it in the past, unlike some guy claiming to be my brother! I don't know how many times I've ventured into the Far North, trudging through blinding snowstorm, mushing my Huskies across the frozen track, avoiding Polar Bears and Mounties just to join our Arctic Neighbors in a Festival of Audio Fellowship, beneath the Northern Lights.
But could this "Brother" manage to come to one of our events............Noooooooooo.
I'll try to post a bit more, hopefully later tonight or tomorrow.
Edward, be sure to say hi to your pardner, that dispicable "Dastardly Dick" Morgen.
😀
Best Regards,
Terry
Terry, Kevin, those tracks you guys had for doing the judging, and for listening, where can one find them?
Hello Edward. Too bad we couldn't see you this year, perhaps next.
Brother Terry, you know I burn easily and can't stand the desert heat of Seattle. Besides last time I crossed the border, with my wife no less, they decided they didn't have enough to do at 5 in the morning and knowing that she had a plane to catch that was already close timing wise so instead of going for coffee they decided this would be a good time to look at us like drug smugglers. We were put in separate rooms and given a good going over along with the car, a 2000 4-door Taurus. You know the kind of car that all drug smugglers drive, silly us, what were we thinking? I'm wondering if I should have shaved that morning and maybe brought some doughnuts for those overpaid pompous %$#@&^! rent-a-cops. No wait, that would be trying to bride the *&%$suckers. Can you imagine, sweet innocent Cal and his darling wife being rung over the coals 'cause those sonofa #$%&@*'s had nothing better to do? Me either that's why I wrote a letter to George Dubbya and told him my story.
As a result I am now on the group W bench list in your fair country. Did I say fair country, my mistake I meant to say....
Oops, OT
Rant hat off. I'd love to come see ya but...

As I mentioned in an earlier post, those were a custom Hi-Rez disc especially made by Puget Sound Studios for the event.
I'd like to have one myself!

That was a fun and enlightening event! I was pretty darn impressed by several of those little two-way system.
Terry spent part of his time pestering me to start a speaker project of my own--a subject I've pretty much ignored apart from several speaker repairs. I'll have to start off easy and cheap; I've got a couple of really old little Heathkit speakers that could stand a complete overhaul.
I've had a copy of Vance Dickason's design cookbook on the shelf for years; may have to crack it open and do some studying. I'll bring the speakers to the next PNWAS meeting and get some driver recommendations.

Start with a pair of Mark Audio CHR70 or CSS EL70... Terry has a project going for EL70...
BTW Terry, Doorman already has the CHR you won him in a box...

Holy Smokes! Don already has them in a box and I haven't even taken mine out of the box!
If he thinks he can steal a march on me...........Well, I guess he aready has, darn it.
Although Don may be faster, taller, stronger, better looking and smarter than I am, the crucial question remains: Can he do Bondo?
In the days of the Old West, the Colt revolver was the great "Equalizer," just as Bondo is today.

If I got mad at everyone that told the truth, I'd be in a pretty sorry state.
However, in the immortal words of my former College Professor, Dr. Franz Pfister: "I will begin giving good advice, when I am no longer able to set a bad example!"
Franz and I have been close friends for nearly forty years, and he has yet to offer good advice!

BTW, the chr-70's ,for which thanks again🙂, is absolutely killer in the
dMar-Ken 70 enclosure.
As noted elsewhere though, I REALLY need to get a life!

I'm looking forward to hearing them. Just the same, that's pretty quick work and with your skill, it probably looks nice as well.

Don,
I can't help you about the pics, as I'm an Internet Idiot.
The Bondo thing is, truthfully, right up my alley. Being a belt and suspenders kind of guy, I recommend using both Duct Tape and Bondo.

It is interesting to note that the two 3-ways scored the best. The score was essentially a statistical tie between the two and while I didn't see the measurements.... I would bet that both Dave & Gary did a good enough job to have the on-axis fairly flat and the corresponding off-axis would be determined mainly by the driver diameters.
That would jive with what I'd expect in terms of the off-axis performance which should be smoother compared to the traditional 2-way designs. It would have been nice to have a 2-way with a tweeter in a waveguide to see if there is a correlation between the improved off-axis response and the subjective score. Also it would be nice to know what the bottom-end response was to see if there is a correlation with low frequency extension and subjective preference.
We had a lot more kits this year. I don't know all the models present.... maybe someone can fill us in but there were a wealth of kit builds that we haven't had in the past couple contest. BTW: I didn't know that Jerry was bringing my KIT61s to the contest. They are not even available anymore so nobody can accuse me of pushing product. ;-)

It is also interesting to note that the same company produced the kit's that took the top kit category in the last two Contests. I believed that the company's designer owed a great deal of inspiration to his exposure to the legendary Hydro Klammodyne (Red Tide Edition) speakers, that he heard at VSAC some years ago.
