But this has nothing to do with the changes in sound I am experiencing.

How do you know this? That seems to me to be the most probable issue. The second most probable is what everyone else has been telling you.

"No scope or generator" is analogous to trying to tune a race car without a wrench or timing light. Be resourceful- it's a big world out there.

Interesting. I found a thread which describes a similar experience to what I am going through now although the equipment is different.

www.head-fi.org/forums/f5/add-wooaudio-wa6-amp-maxed-my-equipment-list-264369/

I will quote a few posts:

''only down side is the long burn-in required for the capacitors to
stabilize...i'm on my 750th+ hour and it stills hasn't completely
stabilized, though the fluctuation seems to be getting smaller''

''good luck with the burn-in...i'm on my 700+ hrs. now and the darn thing is still going from great sounding to hints of muddiness that seem to last for weeks, albeit i'm only playing several hrs. per day...the black gate caps, as well as the v-caps, take a long time to stabilize, it seems...''

''these caps fluctuate like mad going from great to not so great SQ...''

I dont know whether its the blackgates or not. I just dont want to desolder anything at this point. But what he describes DOES seem much like what I'm experiencing.

I good friend felt that too...he was desperated while awaiting them to stabilize

This makes sense to me, as a lot of good folks told me that.... also they told me (3 guys) that sounded wonderfull after the long burn in period.

I have no conditions to be waiting this way....i have not that patience.... i just cannot... and also do not want to enter that strange sittuation... so i do not use them.

Welcome to the obsessive group... i think all of us have something alike that.

regards,

Carlos

I can confirm reluctantly, that I do indeed suffer from mental disturbances one of which is called obsessive compulsive disorder.

I've suffered from OCD for over 15 years but you have to learn to manage it to live a normal life. Trust me..... CBT is the path and not medication.

I don't let it get in the way of this hobby nor dominate my life.

Anyway, I dont understand why Aksa doesnt take it back, at your shipping cost, simple as that, end of story

To feel sorry fore Hugh, I dont know really

He knows the game quite well, and took the money

Its his problem, not mine

I would like to highlight that this is between Kenji and myself, NO ONE ELSE.

You can all rest assured that I will be utterly scupulous and fair about this.

I deeply resent the interference in the transaction from third parties I have suffered in this forum. That does not include the technical advice, which of course has been well meaning.

I respectfully ask this thread be terminated immediately.

Kenji, some hours ago I sent you an email. Please give it your attention, we have business to discuss.

Hugh

i have emailed you Hugh.

I have just had an accident where I was measuring the bias and then the probes slipped out of my hand and landed somewhere on the board. There was a pop from my speaker and I saw a bright spark.

I dont know where it landed, it happened so fast I couldnt see.

Bias and offset are both fine and its working, but I'm surprised there isnt any damage.

Kenji, that is what is known as The Expensive Click. Be prepared to do a wholesale replacement of semiconductors.

I dont understand, please explain what you mean.

Those electrons will not be blue anymore, now toasted Kenji!

ahahahahah!

Carlos

come on no joking please this is very serious.

Do you have any (serious) comments to make about the accidental slip I made?

I dont understand, please explain what you mean.

I have done that 3 times. (expensive click) Even if amp survives , the stress to the device's die could shorten its life. I recently reused a pair of semi's that I "clicked" , they did not match the new devices in a multiple output pair setup. While they still worked , they were damaged , and did not "share" the current with the new pairs. A new pair solved the problem. (all were from the same lot).

You might of momentarily touched a driver (or lower current trace)
and lucked out ... hopefully.

Hi SY, ostripper,
Completely agree with your take on the expensive "click". The fact that the devices have been damaged without complete failure is a concept that I've been trying to teach for many, many years.

Now, I can't say what exactly happened in Kenji's case. He may have hit supply - ground, or something far more sensitive. But then, that's the point, we don't know unless someone actually examines the board for those arc marks we all know should be there.

Hi Kenji,
Are there any arc marks on your probes? If there are, there should be marks on some component leads on the affected board. Knowing this, please grab a magnifying glass. Under a strong light, carefully examine the entire PCB and component leads for marks. If you see a spark, there should be marks to show where the energy traveled. You may have two or more marks, so don't stop when you see the first two.

dear ostripper

i have sent you an email also.

But how can these things be measured?

For example the reused semis you claim were mismatched may have been that way even if you hadnt clicked them. Do you agree?

Also the chances are I touched the output drivers. The probe just dropped onto the board somewhere and i saw a spark and a noise from the speaker connected to that side.
