Powering up a aleph 5 procedure.

Nice chassis (and not a female in sight taking offense..)!

On the off topic of bearings I suspect that a good in-line skater shop would stock at least two sizes of bearings at fairly reasonable prizes. At least a few should have genuine SKF bearings if you're lucky.

PS. Nice overkill thing to go for race bearings as feet. I save every mechanical part I get from broken disk drives and such. Wonder when I get 4 identical platter holders from broken Seagate drives so that I may add some nice 6-spoke aluminum feet to my chassis? Got 1 and 3 to go...

It is unusual that you have the top and bottom of your heatsink fins sealed off. This will restrict airflow a little bit. How's the steady-state temp? I noticed you have a perforated area in the top plate. Is there a fan?

Your amp is a looker.

Your amp is a looker.

The holes on top are for an exhaust fan, there are intake fans on the bottom which will be thermostatically controlled. As for blocking the air flow up the sides and out the top the fin depth is very shallow. The sheer mass of aluminum should act as a radiator (Space Heater). 🙂

What are the dimensions?

From floor to top panel is 26 inches, the legs are 4" high. It is 13" square for footprint. It will house 2 Aelph 5's running at 50VDC rails for a little extra oomph.

just for the record i have traded my aleph 5 boards and will be building a pair of aleph 2's insted of the aleph 5. ill be still using m preamp p1.7 fully balanced with my new av800 amps. that i just ordered. i cant wait till i get them all done and see my hydro BILL NOT! eheh..

i cant wait thanks nelson pass for provideing a pile ( many choices ) of amp schematics and wonderfull sounding class a amplifiers.

Peter,

The front end boards are the same (ala Sankey, Finnis, BrianGT), but Jason has the kristijan-k type which include the output devices and the frontend circuit on the same board.

I didn't know Kristian had boards like this.

I asked the question, because I thought that front end boards are the same for all versions and the output boards differ only by the number of devices. So jason could just buy another set of Aleph 5 output boards and he would be ready for an upgrade.😉

But maybe trading calculates better.:$:

Yes Peter,

He could, actually, just add 3 output devices per rail with half of Dales (Harvardian/BrianGT) output boards and wire in the DGS connections.😉 Of course, he'll have to change the bias and the rail voltages.

Trigon asked me by email how does my power switch works,so i post here the answer to someone that might be thinking it so.

I used a step(or impulse) relay switch connected to the impulse switch from Finder
it's part nº is 26028230.

It is a 220V/10A AC coil, double phase latching relay.

with one pulse of 220V you turn the amp on, and with another pulse of the same switch you turn it off.

It is possible with some kind of mechanical device in the relay, that make some noise, but works fine and looks kewl!!!

Aleph 4 => Aleph 5

Hello rwagter,

The front end (main) PCBs amoung the Alephs are not the same in the electrical connections.
The each PCB have identical connections as there is on the
original Aleph circuit diagram.
Amoung the original Alephs there are some differences in capacitors connections around MPSA 18 transistor.

However, if you would like to use Aleph 2 main PCB for the
Aleph 5, than it is a better way to use Aleph 4 main PCBs.
They are identical to the Aleph 5 in the electrical connections.

If you would use Aleph 4 main PCBs, than few component values should be changed for the Aleph 5:

R26 - 221 K (on the PCB marked as R 17)
C1 - 47 nF (on the PCB marked as C1)
R29 - 453 R (on the PCB marked as R 13)

Source resistors - 1 R / 3-5 W
Output resistors - 4 x 0.47 R / 3-5 W
Power supply voltage - 34 V

Best regards,
Kristijan Kljucaric
