I still have a full assembled board sitting here, just haven't gotten around to firing it up. I have it modified to run the 6HJ5s as well.
I just finished my board, all I have that will work are 6JM6's.
Do I need heat-sink compound for the n-channel MOSFET's? The data sheet doesn't mention anything about this.
jeff
Compound will help thermal conduction. You don't need an insulator, though.
So the tab on the chassis mounted mosfets are not carrying any voltage?
**Just remembered mine are a different then the ones prescribed in the BOM. Mine are not the fullpack version If I remember correctly. It has been a while since I lasted looked in that box.

Ok, thanks.🙂

If there is enough interest, I'm not adverse to spinning a version of the board that has octal sockets... and making some other changes, within reason.
Food for thought...
Pete
I would buy 2..

If your mosfets have a metal tab, ASSUME that it is hot with voltage. It usually is. The mosfets that are totally encased in plastic are safe to use without an insulator. If you can get any rading with an ohm meter from the metal tab to board ground, an insulator is needed.
This board is like the chevy small block of tube amps
Hey, I'm a Mopar guy! But I will admit to tweaking a 350 or two, and even a 5.0, but the only V8 I currently own displaces 446 CI (a .030 over 440) and makes well over 500 HP.

With a little hot rodding (a hot cam and headers maybe) any of the 17 watt tubes can do 40 to 50 WPC.

Right sorry. If you used the described part it doesn't need an insulator. If it has a metal tab, it needs to be insulated with a pad or mica+grease.
As long as we're talking Mopars..... I worked for Chrysler in Highland Park in the radio design group back in the mid 80's. Been a Mopar fan since. My toy is a 93 Sundance with a 3.8L V6 from a 2003 van. Heads are ported and polished, nitrous, and 5 spd from a 2003 Stratus w/the 2.7L V6. ECM has been custom calibrated. Exhaust feeds a catalytic, then straight back. Pipe size is 2 1/2".

I got 60WPC out of the "little" 6JN6's, but that was pushing B+ to 500V. At a more sane 450V, 40-50WPC should be a piece of cake. Very early in this thread, Pete mentioned that he had also tried higher voltages but opted back off in the name of hobbyist success rate (and probably reduced mortality rate).

V8's? V6's? Can't you guys tell this amp is obviously a four-banger? 2.2L with 30psi of boost! 😀

I had a Shadow convertible with a 2.5L auto, but it was stock and slow. In the 80's I got the itch to start tweaking the 2.2L. I went through 4 L bodies (Omni, Charger), several engines and 6 transaxles (A525's) in the quest to surprize the 5.0 Mustang guys. I even got to talk to Carroll Shelby on the phone when he was at Dodge. I ran a turbo and lots of boost to reach 13.7 Sec in the quarter with a full exhaust system. I never ran it at the track with an open down pipe but it was much faster, and hard to control. Yes, ported and "O" ringed heads, cam, professionally built bottom end good to 8000 RPM......
Rknize still plays with such toys......OH, and I saw a wicked CSX at the Mopar Nationals a few weeks back, it had the Maseratti 2.2 twin cam motor. Very little FWD stuff there this year.
2.2L with 30psi of boost!
Boost? I got your boost knob right here! Yes, I see 4 glowing cylinders in some of my own pictures.

Problem living in NY is I can't register the thing. Too modified for street use. NY is an inspection state. That car should use ODBI, I'm using ODBII in ODBI mode. Yes it has a check light, yes the light is fully functional and will set a code with a bad sensor, however in the eyes of NYS it is not street legal. So, every once in a blue moon, I will take a drive around the block at night and say to myself "I moved back to NY because....."

Did you see the drags at all? A few guys from our local SDAC chapter were there. One guy has a red 87 Daytona with a 2.4L turbo. I know the CSX you are talking about.
I don't have such a nice setup, but my other boost can go pretty high on 93 octane:

Well, it was unfortunate that my wife and both grandkids had birthdays in August, and the family decided to have a birthday party on Saturday, so I had to got to the Nats on Friday this year. My wifes birthday is the 12th which is usually during the Nats. She understands my priorities though, I go to the car show! The grandkids were here this year, and I haven't seen them in 2 years. The crowd were much thinner on Friday, and cars kept blowing up on the drag strip resulting is several long clean up delays.
I brought a new camera with a 500 mm lens to capture the launches at the strip. I did catch a few wheels up launches. I'll look through my pictures for the Daytona, but I don't remember it.
In a rather unusual move, I was dragged into a conference call today where I was told to wrap up my current radio design (we just got P1 boards back) because I will be working on LTE soon. No, I'm not in MD!

LTE? Wait, are you in Mobility or Solutions, then?
I'm not much into cars, but for the past 10+ years I've supported Ironhead (Harley Davidson Sportster) land speed record racing.
It started when team Duck (Ducati) took the record back around 1998 or 1999 for pushrod overhead valve 1000cc class.
Nola was christened to attempt to take back the record, but didn't quite make it. Following that there have been several successful bikes that have pushed the record. SNART (Skinny No A** Racing Team) pushed the record several times. Kissemet and Kissemet II ran the last couple years and I'm not sure who is running now since I've had family issues keep me from the team the past three years.
One of the Sportster guys (Jimbo #74) on the Grey Ghost here:
Landracing.com - BUB International Speed Trials Pre-Entry List
is running at the salt for BUB and hit over 140 but dropped back to 138 on the return run with a head wind yesterday.
I'm going back to watch the ECTA at Laurenberg NC this October come "Hell or High Water".
I hope to take my Ironhead to ride (but not race) this year. The heads were flowed by Ironhead Tom (Gordon) and will be running 10.5:1 (wiseco) with Dual port heads (My own work) and a newer CV Carb (the old Zeneth Bendex was a POS).

Should read Dual Plug heads, not dual port heads.
Second set of spark plugs added because they are true HEMI heads with offset plugs and combustion is not very good with single plugs.
By the way, when were hemi heads introduced into cars?
Harley used them starting in 1938 or so in the Knucklehead (EL), then in the Panhead (FL), Sportster (1957-1984) , and Shovelhead.

Chrysler first sold production Hemis in 1951, and this is believed to be the first use of the word Hemi. However the word Hemi wasn't used until much later. Chrysler used trademarks like Firedome, Powerdome, and Red Ram to describe hemis then.
It was known that Zora Arkus - Duntov of Corvette fame made hemi conversion heads for the Ford flathead V8 just after WWII. Some were sold under the Offenhauser name. Some were Ardun. The hemi head was used on aircraft engines during the war. Other hot rodders had been experimenting with hemi heads too.

Still in the group formerly known as CGISS, soon to be known as Solutions. Can't discuss it here, I will send you an email later in the weekend.
