Holton Audio NXL800
Howdy Folks,
I’m a bit late posting my build of my Holton NXL800 Dual Mono block amp.
Finally....after 2 years I have finished my build of the Holton NXL800 amp!
Its 99.9% completed, just a few other things I would like to do, but that’s for other day.
Big thanks to Anthony Holton.
Can’t wait to start the next build and to see the new amp modules coming this year, but for now it’s time to ship this one home! I have the audio case. Just have to secure the amplifier in it and pay the freight bill 💵. 🤦🏼*♂️😥
The main components were
2xHPA NXL800L modules
2xHPA PSU Two V2 power supplies
2xHPA. Volt one Regulators
2xHPA ss/Relay one speaker protection
Power one R4 mains controller
2.5KVa Toroidy (Audio Grade) transformer
2x120KVa Toroidy transformers (Volt one supply)
Completed unit weighs 53kgs😂😂
The labels were printed on Perspex then sprayed black for the front, while the back panel was left clear. I printed the labels first on baking paper first to make sure everything aligned before the final print.
The main 2.5KVa transformer is mounted on isolation feet on its own mezzanine level with the other 2 transformers mount to that.
Also included in the power supply housing is 2x12V brushless cooling fans that are controlled by a simple thermostat switch set to 40C.
Speaker terminals were from Dayton Audio carbon fibre wrapped....definitely sounds better 😂😂🤦🏼*♂️
All the best everyone!

I would be interested to know - when you say hybrid, is it tube voltage gain and a SS follower ? and why did you choose the design, the reasons, to share your wisdom 🙂
I’m staying with simple. This is my new Hybrid Amplifier!

Stevenv. Wow. Knowing the sound on Anthony's amps I am sure you are in for many hours of audio pleasure. 53kg heavy weight 💪
I have to point out a small issue for me. You have used a bad crimping tool. Which for me makes the crimp connection look ugly and possibly could cause bad connection at the crimp. With such a high quality build, you should buy a nice sets of crimpers. Also check correct crimp size for cable size. Not meaning to have dig at you, more to save pain in future. Or to have in mind for other builds.
Beautiful ! 🙂
Thanks!
