Fantastic thread!
Not sure if it has been a topic in this thread before, but about the NJM2100 opamp;
"Replacing the feedback R from 18k to 27k will increase the output signal voltage by about 50%"......"The signal is still undistorted and there is no clipping"
anyone tried this?

Most of us take the signal directly from the DAC and not through the mediocre opamp. But if you are content with the unmodded sound your hint is a simple way to increase the output volume. (Some epayers take 99 Euro for this mod

Hi Tulo,
I have tried the direct signal mod. I have several PS1 so my plan was to make one PS with this mod and one with the signal directly from the dac.
I also tried the transformers (Altromic 600:10K) suggested earlier in the thread by "Ziggy". The sound was very good, very clear and dynamic - better than direct dac & capacitor mod.
But some strange bass-distortion occured at very low frequencies - it sounded like a blown woofer....😱
What caps people have used to mod 5502 power supply?
I wanted to make power supply better and recase it.
This one is very interesting, but I don't know if it works on 5502 model.
Whitch caps should be change and to what?

Jake

Hello,
I just bought one from a flee market, happy to see the SPHC-1001 at the bottom and did not realize until I got home and try to put a cd in. It is missing the top center piece that you snap the cd in place and hold the cd. Is there any thing to fix it or I have to get another one?
Thank you in advance.

PS One output volume
Hi
I've done the direct dac to 2,2 uf caps and 22k resistors conversion but wish to up the output volume.
I notice you have discovered a way to do this but do not follow what you've done ??
Can you explain ?
I followed Mick's site instructions - is this similar but just experimenting with different resistor values ?
Really glad I checked in to this !!

Andrew

PSX as cd player
I have dealt with all versions because of the modding scene. I personally have tried the SCPH-1000 and up for this purpose. I have read that article about it being a so called "superb" cd player but what i found it to sound like was undetailed and not harsh (bass was tinny and it sounded like it was underwater). Very cheap pleasing cd player if you have one kicking around the house but when i listen to that compared to my M-AUDIO Delta 1010 recording sound card at different sampling rates.. the psx sounds more like a 96k mp3. Back in that day and age digital audio for it to sound really good meant expensive because the technology is that type associated with computers which the standards keep getting better. In the end, the psx is a non-fatiguing listening experience but definetly not a audiophile product at all.
Hello,
any experiences with the different kind of Playstations (1 and One) as a dedicated CDP?
It seems that some real hardcore hi-enders are using them in replacement for some real expensive CDPs.
Any suggestions for tweaking and modding in order to get a great CDP?
Thanx

Hi Kropo,
When i moded this PSX for my friend i used this:
C001,C002- 1uF/275V X2 (maybe MKT.) and bypass MICA 1000pF/500V
F001- 1,6A slow fuse
C003- 680uF/400V, bypass 0,47uF/630V MKT
D1,D2,D3,D4- BA159
C101,C102,C103,C104- 3300uF/16V Low ERS (PANASONIC)
C105-2,2/50V MKT
Around a DAC i change three capacitors(beat two are lead to the preamp) for a 470uF/16V OSCON and finally i remove 10uF electrolyt and led the signal over 2,2uF/400V VISHAY MKP1839 to the cinch..
If you want, i have a servis manual of SCHP-5500,5501,5502,5503..
Sorry for my bloody english

Hi conket,
you can get lots of center pieces as spare parts on ebay. There are metal and plastic versions, but be careful while mounting the new center piece (don't tilt and don't break it) and especially be careful demounting the rest of the old center piece if there is one left. If you've got the simple plastic rail version buy a new drive instead on ebay (aluminum version) for about maximum 20 bucks! A new complete SCPH1001 may be cheaper but you don't know what you get
Hi all,
I has get one SPCH-1000 on yesterday. But when I open and check DAC is AKM AK4310VM not is AK4309VM? Can someone tell me what is diffrence their? And 4310 is the best or not? Thanks and sorry my English not too good.

The tuning set from TET-Computerspecials is also suitable for SCPH 5502 but you need to change the 7 pole cable from the power supply to the main board because I think you have 5 poles in your 5502 and you've got to have the Nichicon version of the power board.
Imho the 5502 has a slightly "poorer" sound than SCPH1000, 1001or 1002 versions but it sounds better than 7002 or 9002.
My PS one hype began in 1995 when I bought a PSone by mistake (the new smaller one) because I read about the playstation as a CD-player in a German High End magazine, was very frustrated and disappointed because the sound was dull and flat. 4 years ago I bought a SCPH 3500 (a Japanese version of SCPH 1002) at a flea market, connected it to the mains, listened for one hour and saw it explode and going up in smoke because the power board was a 100 Volts version, so I needed a new power circuit.
Then I found Mick's website dogbreath.de and Mick encouraged me to built an analog PB version.
I began to collect and compare several versions of PS 1 so I have several 1002, one 3500, one 7002, one 9002 and several drives and center pieces metal and plastic (I even made a puller to remove the center piece carefully without damage).
The TET set includes one elco 680 microfarad, 4 diodes VISHAY BA159GP and a set of several condensors as mentioned in their store on ebay eBay Shop - analogaudio-vintagespecials: Wir verkaufen Konsolen SCPH-1000 Chinch.
I sent my power board to them last year and for 35 Euro they changed it into a new one with complete modifications including blue LED and UV-LED and Nichicon elco 330 microfarad.
But with this tuning set you have solder yourself and you have to drill a nice hole into the plastic housing for the big elco.
Visit their website Tet-Computerspezials it's really interesting because Mr. Helmle is also a collector of rare playstations. They modify the SCPH 1000 by wasteful usage of electrolytic caps, paper-in-oil-caps and plastic caps, remove the video section and change the DSP programming so that it has a higher output voltage and a deeper bass fundament, build in remote control in front and even make a new housing in original shape from aluminum die cast for a special version.
The set is very good if you don't want to build an analog power circuit but I think shipment from Germany to Finland is expensive!
You can mail your inquiry to analog-audio@tet-computerspezials.de

How audible is the power supply mod? Wouldn't it be better to use a linear one like Mick did?
Honestly (imho) no audible difference to Mick's version; I listened and own both versions but maybe my ears are too old. I'd prefer Mick's version because there is no RF coming from the analog PS but some people don't want a separate housing.

Hey guys,
I'm trying to understand if I can use the PS only as a transport. I have the SCP1001 model. Does the av multiout carry a digital signal at all? From what I have gathered, the multiout also has just the analogue signal, which would mean getting inside the PS to pick up the digital signal.
Any help much appreciated.
