I use aluminum/steel rods from my local hobby shop - the couplers can be ordered from Radio Daze or any other number of sources.

STEALTH, where did you get thode VU's?
It's an original Yamamoto DC mA meter which I bought on ebay with flange.
They are available on Jacmusic, but very expensive here...
DC ampermeter as a vu meter it's not standard, but were cheap and I like some details of them... vu buffer circuit diagram here I have used from jlm audio VU Buffer kit page (easy to build and will drive any ac or dc meter)
