Been on the hunt for EF86 alternatives and found a few good substitutes. E80F seems to work great, sounds identical and is pin compatible. Brimar CV4006/6059/6BR7 may also prove to be a very good substitute with the added bonus being how cheap it still is. It's only downside is the need to rewire the socket. (which I'll be doing tomorrow so I can test them)

There is also the E180F and E83F from the top of my head that arent.
E80F is indeed a long life tube, that was sometime used in the front end of measuring equiptment, technically this is a much better tube than the EF86 itself.
Heater regulators under test
I designed these PCB's for a heater regulator that can supply 3-10A continuously at 7.5-22V output.
Im testing these now for function, and i gotta say im surprised at how well they function myself.
noise is hard to measure with my fluke 175, and my DSO isnt much help either as the noise is below its noisefloor.

Top is an IA with phono, 4 inputs, 6E2 peak meters, and 60WPC or triode power...

I'm a big fan of 6E2 magic eye tubes also, I like the nixie tubes, haven't seen those since I was a kid. My dad who was an accountant, had a very early calculator with nixie tubes. Very cool kit indeed.

Here is my recently completed Tubelab SSE. It deviates from the standard built by using an Antek toroidal PSU, soft start board, and input selector plus sub out. This is my 3rd amp build. First was an ACA, second was a class AB solid state chip amp, and now the tube amp for comparison. I must say I am rather taken with the SSE. It is just so pleasant to listen to.

Those power supplies on your test bench : correct me if I am wrong but these are from Delta Elektronika?

Yes they are delta's. Two E015-2 and two of the E018-0.6D I also have a E060-0.6. I used to have 12 of these 30W supplies, but i got a very good price for the E300-0.1L's so those are gone now.
I swapped them with a friend for a EST150. best decision ever as the EST150 allthrough a very clean switcher is still a switcher, and these offer more flexibility.
the cabinet is indeed made out of some scrap wood, i didnt have a rack to mount them in, so i made that cabinet out of scrapwood.
I dont want to drive up the price on these, but for those outside of the Netherlands, these are on par with the HP6XXX series in therms of performance, and Delta hands out the service manual if you ask for it. If you can get the E series lab supplies for under 100USD i suggest you do so. The only thing that ever breaks on these is C1 on the control board, that axial capacitor dries up over time and leads to loss of full output voltage and excessive ripple.

Is this an optical illusion - looks like the remote control is stuck underneath the bottom unit yet there is no space for it ?
