I think it cost me about £15 to have about 16 panels anodized. Much cheaper than you might expect if you have a word with a small local firm 😉

Here's a few shots of the treatments I've managed to get up this evening and sorry about the rather dark images. My listening room is very dark due to light control for the home cinema side of things. This makes taking images very tough even with the spot lights on full. I've messed around with the brightness in Photoshop but I just don't seem to able to get a decent photo with my camera.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
And finally here's one of the speaker cables I made up:
You know this foam on your walls If you'r house catches fire your insurance will not cover it 🙂 That stuff is extreamly toxic when caught on fire.

Wow, that's a happy thought 😀
Seriously though the foam is specced to meet S.I. 1324 and FMVSS302 according to the certificate supplied with the stuff.

Thanks
That seems very cheap. The word anodized always made me think expensive for some reason.
I still think I'll laquer them but its good to know that it isn't particularly expensive for future stuff.

Hey it's just a warning..

Yeah I know, I probably shouldn't make light of it. I appreciate the headsup 🙂
From reading the stuff on the certificate, it appears this meets British law requirements for fire retardant foam.
I'll try setting fire to one of the spares and I'll let you know how well it cooks 😀

Sorry to hear about that Jleaman 🙁 Hope you've got everything straightened out now.
Did you manage to get your insurance money through or did the investigation reveal that the foam was the cause and voided your policy?
There's a lot of foams that look the same but burn different. I think you are safe Ant, and I'm sure the company will confirm either way anyway.
Shin,
Where did you get the room treatment panels from? Where they costly and do they do any other colours?

Jleaman, sorry to hear of the disaster.
I'd also like to know, was the foam related to the cause of the fire or did it just add to the overall flammability.

It does conform with a couple of the British Safety standards so I guess it meets the law at some level.

They're from a small company called Advanced Acoustics that works out of an unassuming looking industrial complex in Mansfield. I only live 15-20 minutes down the road in Chesterfield so it was nice to go see the stuff being made and the rest of the product range.
They also trade on ebay under the same name and this is how I originally found out about the stuff. I've used Auralex 2" wedges in the past and I think that these not only look much better but do the job just as well and for less than half the price.
The microsorb stuff turned up from MP Audio.
I was surprised at how sticky it was, not particularly nice to work with actually. In the end I placed a 2mm layer of regular craft foam over the base of the satallite and the top of the bass cabinet and then put the microsorb on the top and bottom of the alu discs.
I've only got 3 feet on in this shot because it meant less work 😉 I may sand down and buff up another to make it 4.

Yup.. It can be non-stick though with some media blasting (..gives a "suede" finish). Hmm.. about a month for MP - not to bad for an international order (..for him).
I thought it would be interesting to show the finishing process but it didn't quite go to plan... it seems the combination of the camera and the silver finish don't really highlight the changes in each step to the same extent as the black so it isn't that obvious just how much the finish improves with each step.
Since I've taken the pictures I thought it would be worth posting them anyway.
After wet sanding the orange peel flat with 2000grit. Despite the lack of detail in the photo the finish is a smooth matt:
After using Farecla G3 coarse rubbing compound the gloss starts to show. The rubbing compound replaces the heavily scratched surface with millions of light swirl marks, you need to move onto something more fine after this if you want to improve it:
After using ultra fine cutting polish you have zero scratches and a nice gloss:
Final step is to use Carlack acrylic sealant and acrylic wax, this really brings out the final shine:

And finally we have a completed speaker, nothing more to be done here:

Thanks Steve
The last one is at various stages of spraying. The bass and sat cabinets are hardening up and should be ready for flatting out and polishing in a few days time, so those are close to finished. The little bits such as the baffles and plinth are needing a sand and then more primer as the weather turned whilst spraying and the finish has gone bad.
I haven't bothered with pictures of the last cabinet because its all been seen before with the first, so its pretty boring stuff by now. I'm at the mercy of the weather and as a northerner you know just how bad its been up here these last few weeks. We get the odd good day and then nothing for a week, so spraying is a bit of headache at the minute.
About the demo; No need to buy owt, just pop round and have a listen when they're finished.
