Also paints arrived today.

I've gone with that black and silver with a high gloss finish. The silver is really intense, its listed as sparkling aluminium and I'm thinking it may be a little too much after taking the lid off for a looksee.

I've decided to tint it slightly to take the edge off the intensity. Something like a black or dark grey tint would work well I feel.

I did consider using some of that chrome paint from Rage Extreme - its normally used on alloys for a mirror finish but swapped out at the last minute as it would look 'cheesy' I thought. It would also be extremely difficult to apply to a satisfactory standard too. High gloss is one thing but a chrome mirror? If it weren't perfect it would look a mess and the cabinets would end up in the bin!

Keeping it simple but effective this time.

Silver and Black 😎

A Raider loudspeaker 😎

New camera arrived this morning, so I've taken a couple of shots.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

I'll take some more shots as I go through with the spray job and finally once they are re-assembled.

What did you use to coat the raw MDF?
some sort of bondo filler?

can't wait to see the painted cabs 🙂

Its some wood hardener used for reparing rotten wood. Slap a load on, let it soak up and repeat until you got a thin film buildup meaning the MDF has admitted defeat and won't suck up anymore. Then let dry and cure then sand back.

At the end you have the MDF that has been strongly bonded together with the polyester resin. ie. no more absorbtion 🙂

The reason they are grey is because of the 2K high build primer I use prior to the base and clear coats.

abosultely stunning... makes me what to redo and paint my speakers 🙂

maybe next year 🙂

Hiya Shin, looking fine and dandy my good man. Gotta say the cabinets are looking veeeerrrrryyyy impressive!!
Have you purposely made a split line between the baffle and rear?
The last pair of cabinets I made had a very similar feature, and after veneering, I glued in to the slot some 'o'ring (black nitrile rubber) material to finish the 'look'. IMO it added a finishing touch to the mating veneers. I'll get some piccys if your interested.
Keep up the good work M8!

Thanks.

Yes, on the first ones I blended the front baffle seemlessly with the rest of the enclosure and wish I'd kept with my original plan of a channel between the two.

Everyone enjoys a pic or two, so please do post some.

Take it easy Steve.

Hopefully here you go with a piccy. I hope that shows what I mean sufficiently. One day I'll buy a decent camera!!

Cheers for the kind words!

The drivers are Monacor sph-135c and a Seas25taf/g.

The reason I left the split line initially was simply to cut the veneers and give a definite 'edge'. I was just going to fill the recess with black paint but found this whilst looking through a works catalogue. A quick google turns up: http://www.altecweb.com/home.asp?cat=Subcategory8330
but I think I used http://www.cromwell.co.uk/

I used the 1.6mm IIRC. I used a syringe to apply a good amount of acrylic sealant in the slot and then pushed the o ring in place.

Eh if all else fails you could use the stuff as knicker elestic! :cannotbe:

:magnify: I spy with my little eye......😉 😉

I've found a piece around 2m long - 2mm diameter in the spares box! I'll drop it in next time I'm near your neck of the woods.

Steve

Thanks Steve,

So what are you doing about the drivers? Are you coming down to collect them? You could drop it off then if you like, just leave it with my brother.
