I have heard by direct comparison approximately 10 years ago. At this time the now integrated active tweeter crossover wasn't include.
The showed Zen version above mentioned thread outperform the Tambour 300B monos in all respects (the speaker from this time was PHL B17-1230 and Focal T120K). After finished the Zen in this first edition were sold 300B monos from the owner (please note - sound of 300B is not really bad, but less realistic (could be advantage by certainly recording techniques in some cases).
I think, also the diy devices from this project here must be outperform each tube amp, no matter, what type of triode are inside. Otherwise there are fatal errors or it was in the components due to high cost saving too much (or both).

I forecast it will be something simple in schematic and fit for DIY but very complex and subtle in how it achieves it's outstanding performance. It will be based on power devices with outstanding properties which are most likely not available to us today.

Yes, xv will do the job too.... I didn't know about "convert", though, but for a command-line addict like me it's always good to learn new tricks 🙂

Imagemagic is great. I used to love xv. i wrote an explicit optimization function in one of Sun's compilers for it (think it was 96 or so). Great little program, cool to see it still being around.

the first version is using 6N50D2, but no input cap.
the sound is good, but by-pass cap on output cap is necessary, a little bit bothering......
so I swapped some wires, add the OPT I mentioned, well,.....It sounds a LOT more better!
This OPT that you used will increase the voltage gain about 7~8dB.
So it will be louder.
But what is the maximum primary DC bias current of this OPT?

BTW, my absence of 300B for comparison was intentional, I've heard many, and don't care for that tube. Could it be the circuit implementation, sure.
It's interesting how people often have a preference for a
transformer over an output cap. The cap measures better.
A lot better.
I have several examples of amplifiers which put transformers
to use, none of which measure spectacularly, several of which
get very high praise from listeners. What do you suppose it is?

I've been simming an interstage coupling transformer in an upcoming differential amp project and notice that I can get gain from the transformer. I don't know how that will sound, but I'm sure going to find out.

After picking up Janneman's OPT Nemesis project with Electra
Print, we have a nice transformer that you can bias between
1 and 1.3 A, with a 64 ohm primary and an 8 ohm secondary.
This will be featured in a project to be published in Jan's new
magazine I think in June, and I believe that Jack at Electra
Print will be offering it at a reasonable price.

It seems like I live in retirement for a year in advance.
My family have a good time in this period.
The 48Ω:8Ω OPT has a voltage ratio about 2.4:1 .
Do you figure out why the voltage gain of the amplifier doesn't reduce but increase?

I notice that if the output of the Single-End OPT is open,
The Single-End OPT just like a huge inductor.
The counter-electromotive force may damage the transistor.
Do you add any protection to protect the transistor?

The voltage gain does decrease when I compared the output signal and signal present at drain. About 2.5/1.
