Does no one else call them reverse cycle air conditioners?heat pumps
Oh, +1 to plasma.
We call them inefficient energy wasters that freeze when it is cold.
Trouble here is that all the heat pumps are indicated with the same name. The water-water types are OK, the air to water types (in general, exceptions confirm the rule) a bad solution compared to air conditioning used for heating.
Remember the motto: electric = green. Don't calculate anything, just believe the motto blindly 😀

Panasonic = Matsushita.
The same group includes Technics IIRC too.
Panasonic Aquaria air to water heat pumps are already with us.
When you look at the UK house sizes and how much external space they typically have (thinking London and southeast) the fun will be where do you mount such a behemoth. It's a common design in the UK that the boiler is mounted in the kitchen or utility room).
We're looking at having the conservatory replaced with a single story extension - one of the considerations will be where to mount a heat pump so it's not noisy or an eyesore. Our current combi condensing boiler is in the attic roof space against the gable wall.
I'd also consider heat recycling mechanism for internal air heat but the problem with heat pumps are their efficiency at certain external temperatures.. like when it's really really cold.
If they stop producing electrolytic caps things start to become serious.
I thought they'd already done that? I remember a thread on a warning that they were considering that.
You are not joking are you? If so I seriously don't like the joke 🙂
I pray and wish that production of fully automatic coffee machines (consumer grade) would be stopped. Horrible waste of materials and very timeconsuming with regards to repairs, cleaning etc. Why people buy these I can only guess. Larger, more waste of coffee, more expensive, more failures, way more cleaning....

Ahh I have two - a Tassimo and a Elektra Microcasa a leva with an MCAP4 grinder.
The Tassimo gets used day-in-day out, the first developed a leak after many years. It's faster to brew but if you want to recycle the plastic capsules then you spend time cleaning the granules out of the pods. If they made the foil top easy peal (which then causes a problem for the pressure required), then it would be so much easier.
Total speed of making a coffee with the Elektra - well it takes 15 minutes to heat the water and even then it only has enough water for 2 people 😀 Then you have all the prep, tamping and cleaning up. However it does (if you feed it fresh coffee ground) produce the best coffee on the planet and if you want steamed milk the resulting micro bubbles in the milk make a cappuccino like velvet. It also looks like a Joules Verne contraption 😀

I bought such a machine from Switzerland for €699.
First try : the coffee was not hot enough !
The seller's answer : you have to preheat the cups !
You often have to use cleaning and descaling tablets.
The water tank is very small and has to be filled very often.
The coffee grounds tend to be scattered in the area directly accessible to the user.
After two years of use, the machine has become completely blocked.
It had to be sent it back to the factory. Fortunately, this was 4 months before the end of the 26-months warranty. Otherwise, the repair would have cost €220.
A few months later, it jammed again. I then watched a video I found on the net on how to open it and clean the inside.
Comment acceder a l'extracteur de la Jura Ena Micro 5 ? - YouTube
Note that this video warns about the moulds that appear inside the machine and which are potentially dangerous for your health.
It was a success but I had to do the operation again every two months. I had enough and ended up selling the machine for €50.
I then bought a small Italian machine for €133. The difference with the previous one is that you have to use pre-ground coffee. Otherwise, the coffee it gives is hot and better than that is given the Swiss machine (often compared to a "Rolls" !)
The new machine is not bulky, has a large tank, is easy to handle and above all it goes much faster to make a nice coffee.

I have a DeLonghi bean to coffee maker. The first lasted 6 yrs and made -6-8 coffees a day (we drink a lot in my house- 4 a day for me and 2 for my wife and when the kids come it’s double that a day) and finally developed a small leak, so I scrapped it and bought another one (£299).
The cost of the machine is 1.9 p a day excluding electricity and coffee.
I think that’s pretty reasonable. And the coffee is definitely better than Starbucks 😀
(NB I drink milk with my coffee most of the time so I always heat the milk in the cups for 40-50s in the microwave).

That is exactly the way I defended having an Alfa Romeo. I excluded fuel, oil, repair and maintenance costs. The cost of the machine is 1.9 p a day excluding electricity and coffee.
Starbucks is a formula saying their coffee is good while being mediocre. Any comparison with simply good coffee without the formula is in favor of the latter... A bit like the marketing of Dyson 😉 As we can see the general public loves these formulas. After having been lured a few times to Starbucks I noticed the writing down of customer names and deliberately mispronouncing them when the product is ready and the ambiance are the formula. The coffee is a byproduct but with fantastic names.
Anyways this Philips EP2220 is 4 months old and already replaced. I worked on it for hours but it is full of bugs and annoyances. It goes to recycling. Let's hope its plastics are used in a a good audio device 😀
BTW you are lucky with the device and low cost because most break down very early. Please take care not to heat up milk in a microwave. I had this habit and had health issues resulting from that. I don't know why but it is not too good to do that.

I feel with you brother. It is the same story with many household products for a few years now. Made to break down. To avoid any loss of profit also the simple machines are now constructed a way that they don't last.
To those reading... it is mainly about the types that one can throw coffee beans in and that do all the work themselves. Except cleaning and keep working that is.

Because I get a consistent cup of coffee that rivals a café every time. I use sugar cubes, too. I'm willing to pay the extra for that.
I've tried many drip brewers, percolator, French press, "quality" instant, and nothing compares to the Keurig. The K-cups are recyclable/biodegradable now, too.
If you want to reduce failures and descaling, you can brew with distilled water. I find the cost of the water is more than the replacement Keurig (I paid 55$ for mine).
I rinse out the cup holder and I clean the water reservoir once in a while. I've never done any more cleaning than that, and a 15$ drip maker from Wal-mart fails after 3 months and also becomes waste. This Keurig has brewed coffee almost daily for almost 2 years now.
The real waste with k-cups is the volume they take for their mass. 10 grams but about the size of an apricot 😀

Those are not the large expensive fully automatic devices that are meant, spoken of and shown on the pictures....The Keurig are not large, not expensive and not fully automatic. Of course simple devices that use cups are more reliable. Devices that drip are most reliable. A bit like people.
The approx. 300 to 1500 Euro devices with built in coffee grinders, 15 bar pump, built in water tank and automatic waste disposal are meant AKA the housewifes dream for some reason. The surprise to many is that many of these devices have the same internals.

I like the vintage Sunbeam radiant control toaster. Auto-loading, bi-metallic strip that reacts to the colour of the toast. Simply the best toaster I've used. (Short internals description, reply #3)fully automatic

And a beautiful appearance too. Stainless steel or plated brass I guess?! Simple devices made some time ago tend to last. As they're from the sixties one should be cautious if asbestos was used isn't it?
Imagine the toaster being designed in 2021. Full plastic, upgradable firmware, wireless and an app telling the toast is ready plus a touchscreen. Lifetime 2 years max. 🙂

Turn on Notifications for when your toast is ready..
#notificationspam as sales channel and reminders that you'd really like some toast in the middle of the night.
People are annoyed that I automatically turn off notifications permanently, put my phone to silent and concentrate on what is in front of me. Modern life has too many "self important" things..
Video door bell. Nope. Cloud attached Heating control. Nope. Cooker WiFi enabled? Nope. Fridge ... nope.
Spam emails or adverts actually place themselves on a "Never buy from that company" mental list very quickly. Current one I'm getting spammed by the Chocolate Hotel Velvetiser.. it makes hot chocolate, it heats and stirs it. Yes I know. however I will now never buy one.

😀
I just boil water and put it in a coffee filter.
Or boil coffee and water together, sometimes the filter cools down the decoction.
Transfer decoction to cup, add sugar and milk to taste, drink.
