Hydrogen powered fuel cells were used in space missions, 50 years ago.
They withstood rocket launch, and worked in a mission critical requirement.
The rockets did not go bang from leaking hydrogen.

But most people are stupid, no way so I want Hydrogen is use as a common fuel, it’s asking for trouble.
Here a man died while welding a vehicle powered by natural gas, did not turn off the valve on the cylinder.
People are beyond stupid at times.
There is a site called 'The Darwin Awards', about terminally stupid people.
Enjoy.

Yes, once we all have flying cars the population should drop (no pun intended) dramatically.
You won't see Hydrogen as a fuel. Too hard to keep in a tank as it will pass right through a stainless pipe.....
I got no dog in this fight.
But it happens I just read an ARC of a book on the topic. The Hydrogen Revolution by Marco Alverà. Very enthusiastic. Yes, Marco is a capitalist who is heavily invested in light gas so is motivated to make it seem easy and inevitable. At least it is very on-point and CLEAR, not academic bushwah or silly handwaving.
I also have a low-hour 58 inch Panny plasma (manf July 2010) available free to anybody here. (I ran a loop out from the internal speakers, so I'm running external speakers, and it sounds great.)
Looking forward to my 77 inch Sony OLED, so please hurry.
