Yep, I did notice the wonky text on the MJ15004's, but they are DEFINITELY genuine - I ordered them directly from OnSemi through their samples programme, they came in a box with On Semiconductor's logo, and in antistatic bags also marked OnSemi.

They also came with MJL4281/4302 and MJL21193/4 which *definitely* aren't fake - as they work without exploding 🙂

Hi Jaycee, I am referring to the pictures posted by "adi81bv". Your transistors are definitely genuine, exactly like what I have now (from Farnell-Newark). But the ones owned by "adi81bv" are not, I'm afraid. Refer to ESP's web pages for the descriptions.

bawang, i was replying to adi81bv 🙂

The fact that the markings come off with acetone make it 100% certain they are fakes. I don't know what they use to print onto the casings, but it doesn't come off easy - you have to take sandpaper to them to get anywhere!

adi81bv, treat them as MJ2955/2N3055 and you will be OK. If you have more of them that you can spare, perhaps it will be worth cutting the top off of one and seeing whats inside, then you will know what you're dealing with and how much power you can safely get.
