Old Soul

Thank you!
Did the same with a piece of brass-tube, sharpened with a sinker/countersink, and punched a piece of keratherm…
Other side with the bolt is the problem, I guess I need a nylon-washer … (keratherm too soft, got damaged)

My kit from ZenMod came in and it's time to build now!

I found this mounting hardware detail for a 2N1099 - (TO36)
An ebay guy has them for $10 a set. Think I can get the pieces
for much less.

motor run caps

I'm gathering parts for a build. Since I'm planning on using some
computer caps I have around I figure I'll try squeezing in some motor
run caps as well.

What are you guys using? I know the Mighty Zen Mod has recommended
Ducati but they don't seem available at Digikey or Mouser.

Has anyone tried Panasonic ones, for example : Blocked ?

The price certainly is right. 🙂

Thanks,
Dennis

Ducati and Icar on this side of Big Splash

Dunno on your side - just take those from long existing Factories and you're good

say that 40uF is lower limit for those - if going for less, just put any other convenient cap

point is - motor runs are dirt cheap in my neck of wood, at least comparing to Audiophool caps of same capacitance ....... and I know for sure that not just one decent maker of Tube amps was using them regularly ........ so ZM again invented boiled water

🙂

Nowadays, also „DC-Link“ MKP capacitors of large capacitance are well available at not-too-high prices. I think these are used in solar installations (inverters), that would explain them becoming more plentiful over the last years.
I have had good success in tube amp PSUs with these as well.

That Chassis barely fits…

Hoho.
(Or should I say HO-HO-HO! Ergebnis der Google-Bildersuche ?)

Now that everything seemed to be in place, I started to put it all together. Quickly came to realize that the base-plate won’t be accessible and has to be fiddled in because the boards aren‘t placed high enough.

That’s not all. The cinemags collide with my inward-mounted speaker-posts ( https://www.distrelec.ch/de/einpressbuchse-stift-4mm-schuetzinger-bu-6792-ni-fst-8x0/p/30062707 ) (I like it‘s minimal look 🙂 ) so that I must re-position them, leaving me with a, well, mis-engineered backplate unless I start over. Same with the mounting-plate, cumbersome to get it screwed on.

I screwed unless I screw it, so to say.
Conclusion 1: make it work.
Conclusion 2: prototype everything before making any holes (build it before you build it)
Conclusion 3: why build new amps if we can rebuild everything over and over again?

At least, I just don‘t have to think about adding any of those motoguzzis (what do they do anyway? ) 🙂
