Question. What do you guys think of the perforated aluminium? Yay or Nay? If nay...should I spend a lot more getting stainless steel mesh?

Hi Gerrit...thanks for the vote. Noted about the alignment indeed...this was just for the "photo shoot" 😀

Yay. Looks good and will be well protected in that narrow gap. Clever idea to put the speaker connectors right there close to the OT.
Thanks for the vote Francois!Looks like I'll be glue-ing perforated aluminium in my near future.
Was thinking about the leads and how I would have them run into the chassis only to let them out again...If I can take shortcuts I usually do. 😀Clever idea to put the speaker connectors right there close to the OT.

I don't mind about keeping my thread clean. But to get more input and have more folks read it...it would indeed be better to put this in the original thread.I wonder if this discussion should be moved to the original Baby Huey EL84 thread, where others might find it useful, and not foul Bas’s nice building-oriented thread.
2 perforated alu plates glued to the OT cases. Could not help myself and changed the WIMA to Jantzen. Since I removed the schottky to the bottom...and had to change the WIMA's to the bottom so the pcb would be closer up to the top plate...I decided to go ahead and change the caps. I probably won't even hear a difference...but knowing myself...I just went ahead and changed them now...so I don't have to disassemble etc...once it is up and running.

Hi Bas, This all looks very nice and well aligned. Where did you buy the Jantzen capacitors? I need 6 pcs or more and am still looking for a price I can afford.

Hi Gerrit,
Bought them from Rumoh 0.22uF Superior Z-Cap | RumoH - Caps, Coils and Speakers
Only after I got them did I see they were rated for 1200V. I imagine they'd be smaller if 400v version.
Kind regards,
Bas

A picture of the "active" part of building. Too often I post about the final thing... and you don't see all the mistakes. For example: To have the transformer on the chassis the way I prefer it...and for it to be safe if placed thus. I decided to cut away the bobbin case that transformers are supplied with nowadays.
As you can see...in the process I broke the bias supply wire...hope I can fix it...it is so thin.
Last picture is blackened oak for the feet. blackening is done with the steelwool in vinegar trick.

Bas, good work, and very interesting to follow. I enjoy you creativity.
What are the dimensions of your top plate? And the purpose of the larger holes in front of the ECC83’s?
Hope the fix of the bias wire goes smoothly.

Thanks Francois. The dimensions are 35 by 30cm. And the larger holes are for the rca inputs.

Hope the fix of the bias wire goes smoothly.
