O2 amp Australian parts GB

For those looking for plugpacks with an AU plug, it seems jaycar is out of stock nationally for the MP3020 (12VAC 500mA) until mid December. I was getting some other stuff and while I was there purchased an MP3026 (12VAC 1A) and have measured it at 14.1VAC with no load. According to NwAvGuy: O2 Details 13.5VAC no load is sufficient so unless your line voltage is significantly less than mine this transformer will get the job done.

I just grabbed one of these off ebay. It's a bit more expensive, but it looks perfect. I'll measure as soon as it arrives. Hopefully, it is under 22.5 VAC.

I'll post as soon as I find out.

NwAvGuy: O2 Details
Measure Your AC Wall Transformer – If you have a DMM use it to measure the AC voltage at the coaxial power plug. It should be at least 13.5 VAC and under 22.5 VAC. If it’s above that range you need a different wall transformer. If it’s between 13 and 13.5 VAC you might be OK unless you plan to use power hungry low impedance headphones. If it’s less than 13 VAC you need a wall transformer with a higher voltage.

@fordgtlover - I wonder if that ebay seller could give BF some tips on quick delivery? 😀

@bluefusion - how're those panels coming along, heard back from the machinist guys? Are they the main thing we're waiting on now for most people right?

Mate, I was really hoping that I would post today saying that it was all good, but alas... (now there's a word that doesn't get used enough these days)

Well, I'm thrilled to say that the package from BF arrived about 20 minutes ago. (mail deliveries on Saturday - go figure

My initial impressions of the kit is that BF has done a top notch job in labeling and packaging the components.

I'll check off the parts this arvo, build it this evening and report back as ASAP.

Happy days!

Looking forward to seeing those parts on my workbench soon!

are those 4 batteries i wanted still available?, i planned to send pp yesterday, but will do now if they are. my pcbs also arrived, thanks!! so looks like its all FINALLY starting to come together and the kit does look well packaged. i assume paypal is ok for the batteries and that your account is back to normal? i prefer paypal, things may be on the up and up, but all the same......

I have checked the parts in the kit and found 2 relatively minor issues. I have provided feedback directly to BF.

Are we talking part substitutions? I found a few part swaps that BF had done for parts availability and pointed them out - http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/group-buys/195660-o2-amp-australian-parts-gb-22.html#post2781105

Great news that you've got your pcbs qusp, considering they were sent from olli back in Oct!

BF, still silence from the machinist re the front panels? You originally said that when you sent to the machinist that you'd get some indication of timeframe, that was 16th of November alas (had to use the word, just for fordgtlover!) we're in December now so I'm a bit confused, again.

I was hoping to build the amp tonight and post any other observations, but I didn't have a dead 9v battery on hand. So, I'll leave the build while I create a dead battery overnight.

The two issues are the size of the resistor for R16 & R22 - as already identified by hochopeper - and that my kit was missing the dip sockets. As I said relatively minor, but worth pointing out before BF sends the kits.

I've started populating the board. Those 1.5K resistors for R16 & R22 are not going to fit very well at all. Using the larger resistor will mean that they will have to be tombstoned or otherwise just jammed in there - not nice.

Farnell have some small 1.5K resistors in stock. I'll buy some and send them on to BF for inclusion in the kits ASAP.

The second matter is only of concern to new builders. BF has grouped and packaged several resistors into anti-static bags, and then labelled the bag with the contents. This means that each of the 4 or 5 anti-static bags containing resistors contain several values of resistors, which means that you MUST measure the resistors before installing them - so for any newbie builders; get yourself a DMM (even a $10 one from Bunnings) before you start.
