Just watched a live webcast of Peter Mulvey from his home office. His last song was a killer version of Black Rabbit, an open tuning tour de force. It even features some of the sort of tap playing pioneered by the great Randy Rare (Resnick).
The song played on a different day, but just as nicely:

Cruising Stations with The Royal Australian Navy Band ... probably useless for anyone not in Oz, but this mob have recorded a whole series of CDs: classical, march, popular, etc. Main thing is that it's been very 'honestly' recorded - big band sound, huge dynamics at times, extremely clean, a good musical vibe - the sort of thing to wind up the volume, and blow the roof off your house with ... 😉
Listening to my Mark,Don and Mel Record 🙂 (Grand funk railroad)

Change of pace - Woody Herman and the Herd, Live in 44 - from radio show broadcasts, and rehearsals for same.
What one appreciates is the powerful driving of the drummer, Dave Tough, in the upbeat numbers - very much in the Gene Krupa vein, he's constantly pushing the orchestra, hard - such a contrast to what one conventionally hears ...

Mozart - The Magic Flute, with Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, Karajan - radio broadcast from '53. The technical quality of this was quite a bit poorer than the Woody Herman, even though recorded 10 years later ...
And now for something completely diff... - otherwise, 🙂 ... Reality - David Bowie, recorded 2003. To show how the fad of compression impacts, I had to cut the volume of this to about half, compared to full for Scharzkopf, which still needed more volume ... the power supply was completely overwhelmed otherwise. But the soundstage will expand to as big as a system is capable of going - a mega, gutsy amp is needed to do justice to this one ...
A repeat, "NOW The Hits of Spring 2011", already mentioned it a month ago - http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/musi...t3744898.html?highlight=hits+2011#post3744898.
This music is excellent for conditioning systems: heavily compressed, intensely emphasised upper mid-range, gets driver suspensions nice and supple ... 😀

PDH (101.5) is of the local stations in my area .
In fact, it's number 1 in my home tuner's and car's presets. They also broadcast in HD
