Interesting that the cross at the rear of the cathedral main part was at some moment exchanged for the 8-pointed 'apex' (reference to Le point zéro des routes de France mark at the opposite/front side of the cathedral)

I gathered it wil take 2-3 years to assess the damage level, gather all the building details and devise a restauration grand scheme, add to that Mr Macron's half a decade.
Original Coque is back
Eugène 'Violé' le 'Duck', barely over 30 at the time of the Notre Dame remodelling.
La Flèche was the single hideous part of the Notre Dame, good riddance imho.
(also a late addition to the cathedrale, mid 19th century)
Hola, "Coque is back"......
Coq se dit "Rooster" en anglais ( vaut mieux éviter "****" )

Is that because the Dutch are better at making big bells than French?8 bells was French and the very big bell Bourdon was made in Netherlands 🙂

Marketing, 90% of the production of that company is for destinations abroad.
They manufactured the biggest in the world, 36 tons, for a customer in Japan.
They manufactured the biggest in the world, 36 tons, for a customer in Japan.
In that case, they probably have the infrastructure for big bells that others don't have. I mean, when the cost of transporting big bells is accounted for, it has to be more economical to let the Dutch do it than to build or update their own facility to make one.

Bells can be quite impressive.
The largest bell ever cast sank during the attempt to steal it by the Portuguese.
It was cast in Burma in 1484 weighing 297t and a hundred years later it sank.
Every now and then somebody tries to raise it.
The largest operative one is in China weighing 115t, the second largest at 88t was cast 200 years ago in Burma/Myanmar.
The largest one in Notre Dame is a comparatively puny 16t.

My apology, the 36t one I mentioned is the heaviest swinging bell.

It would be cheaper and easier to transport bells from Holland, as the roads are very flat and straight.

Good point, Dutch Royal craft is the metallurgy of excellence with rich traditional heritage..... let the Dutch do it than to build or update their own facility to make one. : scratch2:
Question in France was: Make 8 moderated size bells at the same time or only 1 BIG I guess

I have removed only a few rule breaking posts at this time. May I remind the members, we don't take kindly to repeat offenders. IOW, you ride the pine next time.
Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.
But after crossing the border...It would be cheaper and easier to transport big bells from Holland, as the roads are very flat.

I'll bet Swiss, Austrians, Italians... etc. never hired the Dutch to build big bells. You know, transporting up / over the Alps...
