(I heard Popaul et Virginité only lasted 33 days in the 1978 Vatican)
Pi VII au bord du Pô ? (pissette au bord du pot... I mean !)
OT : A good popular french singer died ! Michel Delpech : RIP. It was a very good melodist!

I hate to intrude on this edifying conversation, but I just got back from Paris. The airline did a great job, very good food and free-flowing wine and champagne. Likewise our hotel in the 8th arrondissement was lovely. Drank plenty of above-average plonk, including lots of (industrial) Champagne. Food was all over the map from disappointing to just fine. More than any of that the city itself was beautiful and wonderful and strong. Public art and architecture as seldom seen anywhere else. The Musee d'Orsay was fantastic, and there is a little museum in Montmartre that is lovely (and had an excellent show on the work of Suzanne Valadon, her son Maurice Utrillo, and her husband Andre Utter).
Of course we walked our feet off and regretted not a minute. We had Metro passes but never used them; subway interiors look about the same everywhere. Also had passes to the Louvre, but I refused to go there with so little time, and we really wanted to see Musee d'Orsay.
Thanks again for all the suggestions, many of which were very useful. We had a great time!

I cast the first vote for a DIY meetup in L'Hexagone, but somewhere less expensive than the city of light. Rennes or Toulouse?
Rennes... humm ! Toulouse... hummm, but some lovely places and its charmant city center, I prefer much more Lyon or Bordeaux myself! Of course there is the incredible Cassoulet which deserves the flight in itself !
Why not Vienna or Budapest ! Portugal capital ?
Beautifull, good wine and food, cheaper I believe... or Croatia if there are lovers of old mortar !
or Something with the Triode Festival people ?
Ah I don't talk about Italia because as expensive than France unfornatully !

I'm game, either one.
(though for Toulouse I'd rather pick Carcassonne)
Carcassonne is lovely, the fort and the little town, but kinda limited. I suppose good for a small meeting it cold be charming.
So much more going on in La Ville Rose. (Toulouse).

Well maybe not. About 4:00PM on Dec 31 I decided we better buy some Champagne, so went into a shop on Rue de Rivoli which had some bottles on sale in the window. Bought some bubbly that looked interesting at a good price. Drank it at midnight and it was delicious, but what do I know? Anyway it was Veuve Fourny Grande Reserve, which Google tells me is actually a very good small Champagne house that really hand-crafts their wine. I guess I got lucky.

I was in Paris last summer, a wonderful wonderful city.
Paris and London are the perfect couple. No doubt stereotyped but I find London being the masculine, confident, bold, powerful. Paris the feminine, with style, class, taste, and a little tendency towards flirting.

I see from there the Woody Allen adaptation of the Martian ! ... The Toulousian !
Topic : an american team lands back one year after to save a forgotten member of the team! To survive he had to let grow bunches of grapes in the red valleys! His most dangerous trip will be to go from Carcassone to Toulouse in straight line without accident in the dangerous desert of red vineyards !
Or :
Lourdes town ? You can hear the speaker but never see it 😀 ! Beds: free chez les bonnes sœurs !
Or a marmelade toasts & tea garden party in the green DYFneint aera, Great Britain ! they talk boh English & elfic (you eat green but starve !) while there are tiny houses made by hobbits ... euh: hobbysts I mean !

Hey they didn't want of the paper written by a syrian jurnalist 😉
My first wife said the same come backing from Venice !
Well I find it's a fine writted review, it's difficult to sumarize and it's necessarely a point of view and I find the paper reflect the feeling she had ! I never finished with Paris myself and think I have saw all the Streets, some hundred times to have lived here, though many things to see Inside the hausmann buildings are the job of a life
The part of black Montparnasse tower is well said, and it's a clever inputt to say than the Paris characterisitic was to stay appart of skycreappers in relation to all the cities which went for it !
the Paris first lady want to make a huge sh*t building and mostly hugly at 1 billion euros to waste the Paris landscape ! Money can buy everything... and they said to be in the camp of the people... Exactly the same as chineese gvt did when they destructe this beautifull traditional old block in Pekin for the Games ! What they prepar in Paris is getting me cry with the triangle ugly massive tower ! They will waste the characteristic of Paris to stay horizontal with grey zinc rooftops and its sublim 100 nuances of grey... just to full their pockett of the mayor! And they even say its echological, what a joke !
Paris changed a lot and not for the better ! 20 years ago there was Nothing with keys in the Pont des Arts ! Though I believed it was very beautifull with all the romantic stuffs on it! Unluckilly they must excnange the parts because of the massive weight of this fragile bridge ! There are also lees and less cafés with a true soul, like in the time of auvergnats café charbon ! Détails for turists as even if you stayed one year and walk everyday, it will not be enough !
