The places we stay, most recently Brittany and Normandy, are beseeching us to come back with daily email offers.
And, is it working or are you feeling besieged ?
(I recently received an email offer from the SF hotel I stayed at during BA '11)

If the Canadian dollar wasn't in free fall I would be more inclined to travel.
Freedom is expensive. But if you plan your travel, there are ways to save money on flights, rooms, etc. The question is : what do you want to sacrifice to travel or travel more as you are not 20 years old anymore !
I loved South America, Asia, India, some african countries, Europa stays expensive, even for europeans, East of Europe is underated imho, while it's true Italy & France are specials. But in facts so much things to see everywhere. Old Stones are Something, but countries like China are big enough for a life trip (and there are both foods and old stones, like great landscapes), Japan is just magic (and cheaper than France imho), Argentine, Chili, wonderful nice people, taking the lift at Valparaiso is Worthing the trip. GB, hey GB ! great stones palace and castle : what a luck !... Belgium : I have to see the royals greenhouses in Bruxelles...
The ultimate problem is there are more and more security problems ! Frankly I 'd like to see Iran and its fabulous héritages; Turquia : great people and heritage as well, went twice! you like old Rome : go in Turquia, you like great islam architecture : go in Turquia !
We are corrupted by our needs of confort and it's true some place are expensive :Western and North Europe for instance... But the more complicate is to have time and to make the first impulsion to move ! Money can be saving on flight sometimes if your job permitt it !

It's time to move this thread ... at least until next December. I plan to be there with wifey.
Enjoy, I'm sure you will be there longer than we were! But you are right, it's likely time to leave this thread alone, but I thought I would share a couple of favourite photos on the way out.
Dec 31 afternoon, Sacred Coeur, Montmartre

Later that day on Blvd de Magenta, open air fish shop

Near dusk at the Louvre

A little later at Place de la Concorde

New Years Day from Pont Alexandre III, Eiffel Tower with her head in the clouds and her feet on the ground

Pont Alexandre III

You know...

Arc de Triomphe as seen from Eiffel Tower

longer than we were!
Means next time you've seen Paris and get to visit Versailles.
(aka the Versailles part of Versailles. Not the stupid palace, that's tourist junk no one else wants to see)
You won't be seeing this next time in Paris:

The Louvre is too big, and you will only do a speck of it. As others have said Paris is quite compact and you really do want to walk around it. A lesser known delight, if it is your sort of thing, is the Musee de la Moyenne Age. Beautiful really old building with some unusual art including some stunning tapestries.

Uuhhhh, read the article
Jackinnj thanks for resurrecting this old thread! It gave me an excuse to revisit it, and brought back many wonderful memories.
What article??
Louvre Pulls Sculpture, Saying It Was Sexually Explicit - The New York Times

I can see no connection between what I wrote in #154 and your response to it. Why did you write it?Uuhhhh, read the article
You replied right after his comment about the Louvre and the article he linked to. Seems a natural supposition that your post about the Louvre whether you intended it or not was a response to the immediately preceding post.
