Maybe I should reinforce a bit more and put in a couple of lifting eyes and fly it from the roof.
I agree; it's a first world problem; but I swear that gravity is indeed getting stronger.
Also SWMBO is getting antsie that her new bedroom speakers took a back seat tho this project.

Currently the port is 560mm wide, 140mm high and 275mm deep. I don't understand the concept of "End Correction " that is needed for shelf ports and I am concerned that I have made a big mistake and the box is tuned too high. But before I add a couple of extra bits of wood to narrow the port by 38mm I'd ask for some help.
Thanx, thanks very much and that low a tuning I can live with, it's only 2 or 3 Hertz lower than I thought is was supposed to be so my arithmetic and use of Box Modeller wasn't too far out.
I just didn't want a hump in the response like the small box

large boxes can be more forgiving.
slot ports share 3 walls
so the port appears longer.
likely to go in the opposite direction.
tuning will be lower if wrong K factor is used.
far as simplicity
correction factor would take into account
1 , 2 or 3 shared walls.
since the port appears longer
the correction factor will show how much
to reduce the port length.

Well the family pressure of Christmas is gone and we've started to make a dent in the left-overs so in the next few days I should be able to make the cutout in the [ removable] baffle.
Today all I did was put in a couple of terminals for the speaker wire, made a small mistake there using a 7mm drill bit and not the 6.5 but no real problem.
I did shove some batting in the top third of the box, just behind the driver but the bottom two-thirds is clear.
It will be the first time I've used the new Milescraft router circle guide

I got the driver mounted late yesterday, I am going to need to spend some real money on a deep spiral cut router bit; 26mm was just a bit too much for the bit that came with the router guide; but I've not been able to test it yet.
My little party DJ mixer died, Left channel went as did the volume control and without out it I might blow my speakers, went out this AM and got myself a $50- mixer from Jaycar Australia. No real functionality but it does have a volume control.
I am going to miss the extra function of my mixer tho, so no echo and no graphic EQ controls for $50-

First off I'd like to say thank-you to you all.
Needed help getting the box vertical and I'm glad I put the box on wheels
All working and tuning seems to be good, my Saxophone playing neighbor approves but my beloved wife tells me the music is too loud, and it was only turned up to 5.
I think this system does go to 11 now.
Next project should be a way of measuring but by ear the big box is more than acceptable. Also the last really big box I'll make; probably.
Set the other subs stacked on top of each other and run in series for a nominal 8R load

Yes I have add that insect mesh over the port, I don't want this one becoming a home for mice or moths. If I was a Kiwi I could have fun being offended at a sheep joke. For damping you may just add a door, so instead of wool you can put a few sheep inside...
This sounds better from 4 metres away too, that distance must allow the port and woofer to blend?
So you do not have sheep in Australia? Sold them to NZ?
If you measure, 4 metres would be a good distance to get a picture of the sound, as cone and port are quite far from each other.
Where do you plan to use it?

I'll use it pretty much where the picture shows it; for music at parties.
The two subwoofers stacked to the side are what I was using prior to building this and the Alpine was a roadkill project.
Aussies tease New Zealanders about having sheep for girlfriends, it's an ongoing Antipodean thing

Just a small comment on "musicality" for want of a better word.
I've been gardening and yardwork all day and listening to various CD compilations
Even tho adding the other side doesn't do much for SPL [ it is after all only 3dB] the sum of all the speakers is better than any one speaker on its own.

Good question.Do you need a DJ controller? Or a DJ mixer or just a PA mixer 🧐
Given how few parties we hold here now the little unit I just bought may be enough into the future.
I guess we don't really need echo and EQ for the back yard
- Home
- Loudspeakers
- Subwoofers
- New party project Best use for this driver
