I'm still to receive the 2x4HD, I have another question in which I wish to try it another way as well with a high output impedance analogue source.
The 2x4hd has an input impedance of 10kohm on the L&R rca inputs, I would have liked it to be much higher, it looks like pics on the net that the 10kohm input smd loading resistor is easy to get at and maybe be changed to something higher >50kohms, but this would depend on the active input stage having a more accepted these days fet input, not bi-polar does anyone know??
I sent a email to MiniDsp tech section, but who knows if they'll answer, as manufacturers don't like this sort of thing.
Cheers George

^It is totally transparent, no noise or distortion as far as I can measure and listen to. Just use good shielded rca-cables!
Mine isn't silent. I'm running it with analogue inputs between pre-amp and power amps. I can hear static noise from the horns (Klipsch rp280) when nothing is playing.
How effective are your Klipsch? The higher db-wise the higher the risc of hissMine isn't silent. I'm running it with analogue inputs between pre-amp and power amps. I can hear static noise from the horns (Klipsch rp280) when nothing is playing.

98db @ 2.83v 1m according to Klipsch.
Imo it should be free of hiss no matter how efficient the speakers are. With RCA's directly from pre-amp to power amp I can put my ear inside the waveguide without hearing any hiss.
I guess a better option would be to feed it with line level signal and do the volume control on the outputs to decrease snr.
Have anyone tried to use a better PSU? Maybe that can reduce the noise.

I traded the nanoDIGI for the miniDSP 2x4HD. The DAC's in the new 2x4HD are as good or better than the Topping D-20's I had on the nanoDIGI. Sure, there is some hiss. When I turn my 98e amp all the way up I hear hiss when I get my ear within of 88dB ScanSpeak 10F's. Since your horns are 10dB more sensitive, you should hear hiss all the way out to 6in. Of course, you are feeding the miniDSP analog, so you are adding an additional degree of difficulty. I have no idea of the quality of the ADC. Never tested it.

any idea why they are not considering a version with 8 outputs?
Large multi-ways is where DSP is most helpful yet 2x4HD can do a 2-way stereo at best.
Is there a way to link two 2x4 for use in a 4-way stereo?

I recently asked minidsp about a balanced version of 2x4hd,but they wouldnt give an answer about upcomming products.

yeah they have been sitting on their 5 year old products for years now.
Anyway, its their business they get to do whatever they want. I am not buying anything.

Just use two separate units with similar settings, or buy a 4X10HD or 2x8 board.
The 4x10HD does offer balanced output! https://www.minidsp.com/products/minidsp-in-a-box/minidsp-4x10-hd

I have the minidsp 2x4HD, it uses the AK4626 as dac inside which output signal into a tantalum cap and then njm2068 opamp and Nichicon FW cap into the RCA out.
I test it as a dac and the sound is Ok-ish and rough compare to my much better AK4495 dac. I mod it by bypassing the opamp and 2 coupling caps in between and the sound became smoother but still lacking behind the AK4495. So I give up using it for dsp.
But as a whole package with its powerful functions, I guess its fairly good but ultimately not a high end product in terms of SQ, as expected for the price.

Is there a way to split the digital Toslink source stream into 2 using something like this
Amazon.com: ViewHD SPDIF | TOSLINK Digital Optical Audio Splitter 1x3 One Input to Three Outputs | VHD-TS1X3: Electronics
and feed to two boards of 2x4HD. each board will drive one side of a 4way stereo loudspeaker.

Certainly. You'd use the routing matrix in one board to select the left channel and likewise the right channel in the other board.
Dave.
