Hi,
Does anyone know which dac & acd chips are embeded in this New MiniDSP please ?
https://www.minidsp.com/products/minidsp-in-a-box/minidsp-2x4-hd
It seems great at it is able of 192 K Hz and FIR EQ & a usefull USB digital input which is great !
Is it possible acording to you to use two units for an active 3 way by summing the USB input ??? Is there any Y wire with two mini USB at the output and one USB A for the input ? DIY ?
regards,
Eldam

I use two 2x4 for a low cost stereo 4 way setup. Costs less than 2x8.
Each one is controlled by its own USB connection. I have only adjusted one at a time. They don't need USB for use - just pogramming. But maybe HD version has USB input?
For the non HD version just program one at a time. Unplug from USB it runs from firmware.

Ok - this is totally new. USB streaming and Toslink. $205 vs $80 for old one. Probably still doesn't need USB to run normally though.
USB Audio2.0 compatible http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/291807-new-mini-dsp-2x4-hd.html
"The USB is used for:
Configuration and real-time control of the miniDSP 2x4 HD,
Streaming audio from a computer or other device such as a music streamer, at up to 192 kHz, and
Streaming the processed audio (four output channels) from the miniDSP 2x4 HD to the computer."

I'd use nanodigi. You add dacs that you like. If you use minidsp 2x4, you are stuck with built-in coverters that may not suit your taste.
Minisharc is the best value imho.

Ahhhh; if you can hear my AYA 2 2014 mooded with IanCanada Front end : just sound fantastic = natural, no lack of détails, dynamic, nervous mid bass !
But I have just one 🙁 !
I was very braked by the spidf needs of the curent MiniDSP (as their relativ low dac quality embeded)... But this new one seems better and have FIR correction 🙂...
But how to feed 2 units with one USB streamer to go active 3 ways????
Of course I would prefer like you to work in digital domain, but I find still very poor the quality of connectivity with the digital MiniDSP stuffs : poor non 50 ohms plastic plug for digital input... but the recent stacked Minisharck + its upper 8 channel AK dac chip is attracting ! But feeding it is IMHO a little jitter risky ! (a good crossover doesn't resolve a poor dac source !)
Note the better SHarc unit in the nexw 2x4 HD, but I don't know if usefull ??? (I mean in relation to the little weakest of the MiniSharc device)
Maybe I should ask to IanCanada if he could be interrested by a USB doubler stuff with an isolation in the middle (Ti launched new chips for USB isolation!) ?

Indeed, TosLink can go higher than RCA SPIDF, 192 Khz instead 96 Khz... But I only work with usb or I2S streamer to avoid more the jitter issues : It changes totally the game : you play in an other world !
So seing this new MiniDSP which can Stream via micro Usb... It can change Something for me, to be able to play more easily without less trade off about digital source quality... Although this new stuff can not be Feeded by a Masterclock with a proper uf-l plug or better screwed link yet (MiniDSP staff if you hear me 🙂 )

This new board uses a newer generation SHARC DSP compared to the minisharc.
The chip spec is a bit better.

i would also be interested to know if there is a good way to use two boards for a stereo 4-way using USB as the music interface. Not sure how to sync the two boards.
or just get the more powerful DA8 and the usb/spdif converter

DA8 is not more powerful.
As i said, the new 2x4 uses 4th gen SHARC processor vs the older boards which use 3rd gen. Though the specs are not dramatically different.
Looking at this release, i think MiniDSP might have refreshes for the other boards in pipeline as well. Just speculation though

"Up to 9600 taps @48 kHz, 3400 taps @ 96 kHz"
2x4HD 96k plugin only, 1024 per channel, quite a bit less. extra PEQ`s still wont make it less powerful.

Hi all,

thanks !
They talk about 192 Khz at MiniDSP, and I see 96 Khz on the datasheet ! Am I missing something ?😕

I loved the DA8 but the spidf in ! Ang putting an extra device which convert usb to spidf is just a risk of even more jitter !
I surmise the bad critics said to the Active low cost devices is because they have not sota digital treatment with good clock and jitter counter measures
thanks !

I believe the USB audio chip in the 2x4HD is from XMOS XCore 200. As for the USB streamer I'm not sure but it does have an XMOS chip as well.

There is an ASRC converting from the SF your musical program through toslink/usb is based to the SF minidsp HD is working, which is fixed 96khz.

Well, it looks like Minidsp has opted for convenience and puts an asrc at all inputs of their devices. Not a bad choice imho...
