Does this unit finally solve the noise issues when using high efficiency drivers eg horns?
You have noisy horns? Sorry about that... I don't and this minidsp is just great for me...😎
Yeah I do. Gain structure blah blah but I have tried everything. Most interesting is one unit is a lot noisier than the other. They may have fixed it with newer iterations?
Confused with all the MiniDsp products.
Can someone help me out, I want something like the "MiniDSP 2x4 HD" as a xover for my <150hz bass drivers of my ML Monolith III's, but I'd rather have an spdif input not just toslink, is there one that has spdif input?.
Cheers George

Unfortunately George you're either going to have to go with a 4x10hd or one of the Open DRC products to get that. The 4x10 might be more cash but the options down the road should you decide on another project could prevent you from purchasing another dsp unit.

Thanks Wes, that's what I thought when trying to negotiate through the many products that there is no <$200 xover with spdif input.
Looks like I picked on the only thing they don't do, maybe I'll just settle for the toslink one, even though I'd rather spdif.

Hi George, let me know please if you find the trade offs with the MiniDSP better than your PCM1704 for the final sound quality result !
As Jonasz mentioned, TOSLINK is S/PDIF.
It's a simple/cheap conversion George.

certainly better to feed it via its USB as it's a 2x4 HD !
I don't know if a toslink or SPIDF (chinch) to USB exist somewhere ?!

I'm only doing it on the bass <150hz, as now I'm doing it with my own active 24db, but the Mini will give me more flexibility and do it digitally.
I'm keeping the Linn CD12 based PCM1704 for the ESL's with the moded 18db Monolith passive xover.
But I could try the Mini on the ESL's, but I have my doubts as every time I've gone analogue active on them (even with very good ones) it's been a step backwards compared to the passive, as not only will it be then be digital active but I will not have the glorious the PCM1704 of the Linn doing the conversion, but you never know?
Jonaz I've always preferred digital transfer on 75ohm cable rather than the through the optical of Toslink.

Note: the 4x10 HD won't do the linear phase crossovers that the 2x4 HD can.Unfortunately George you're either going to have to go with a 4x10hd or one of the Open DRC products to get that. Thanks for that, but to try I'll go with a used 2 x 4 HD just to seen if it can better what I'm doing now.

Thanks. I did forget to metion that aspect
OK ordered the new 2x4hd + remote from MiniDsp is that all I need? I take it the program for the laptop comes with it?
Got question once it's all setup working as a 2 way stereo digital active with digital input via the toslink from the Linn CD12, can the remote be used as a master volume control (max 2v output). And when shut down and or de-powered will it remember the last volume setting used? or will it reset to zero or max?
Cheers George

I don't yet have a minidsp but I do know you will still have to purchase the plugin for your specific dsp device. You download this file and IIRC it's $10. I'm not totally sure about your volume question but I assume if it can remember your crossover settings I'm pretty sure it would recall your volume setting. I can't imagine it would recall a max volume setting when powering it back up. That would be a deal breaker for pretty much anyone who purchased one.
Wes
When I got my 2x4HD, the package included a code for free download of the plugin! Nice but I lost my 10$ because I had loaded it in advance!

Thanks for that Juhazi, you just saved me $10 as I was just about to pay and download it. Did you get the remote for it? looks good value if it does what I hope it will (basically act as a preamp) for $5
Cheers George

No remote, it has power on 24/7 and sits between my preamp and poweramp as eq and subwoofer xo. My preamp has volume adjust.
My 4x10HD has also power on 24/7 (for 3 years now) between preamp(av receiver) and poweramps, volume set at pre too.
Works like a train's toilet!
