A little OT, but it was a nice interview of Ed Dell in the most recent AX.
Thanks, but I must confess that I haven't seen the final result. I could have easily made it twice as long. Ed is a very erudite, interesting man. You can talk with him about anything you want!

Hi guys,
Just to let you know that Bob Cordell and I will be at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest in Denver and at the AES in NY. We will have copies of our books and bookzines available.
For the AES, I have FREE exhibit passes - go to http://www.aes.org/events/131/vip.cfm?799
We're at booth 755 at the AES, and in the lobby near the registration in Denver.
Hope to see you there!

I just became free that week and want to visit my daughter who is working in NY. I'll be bringing some of the prototype mikes for part two of my article to Austin.

Just ordered issues 0,1, and 2 - can't wait to get them.. The first new weighty reading in audio for me in ages.. 😀
Jan, i just got Vol.2 and the Baxandall-Self papers. Thanks. I never heard about Class I and i really enjoy the Groner contribution. I work with transimpedance since the early 80th and know it´s potential. I must really say that this guy has a clear mind. Looking at his photo i got quite a shock too. Laboring through his work i had the impression that this was from a rather older guy with lots of experience but not from a smart young guy like him. I needed over 30 years in the business to even half mature. OK, a lot of it was in marketing.
Yes Joachim, I understand the feeling. Makes it double worthwhile.
BTW I mailed your bullet parts on 27 Sept.

Great! And you'll be in Austin, double great!
BTW If you want access to the AES presentations PM me.

I got the spheres. Thanks that you where able to ship them under time constrains. They are so pretty that one of them even has not left our living room. I asked my wife if she would mind if they could sit there for a while because my lab is a mess at the moment. She did not mind at all and even commended on the beauty. That NEVER happened before.

That is a nice change isn't it 😉
The other day I read an advertisement, I believe it was from PMC, about a new giant speaker 'that comes with divorce papers'. Go figure.

Jan,
You are a $%%!!!!###, I just started into Volume 2 and realize I have to order more copies to give to my young apprentices just for the first article! The moths in my wallet are going to miss their food!
Fergaglatz!

Ed, I just googled 'Fergaglatz' and I got only one hit - this post???

It is a nonsense word!
I may still take you up on the offer if I can figure out the right mix. Hand I done it last time I would have missed the mark... er Euro.
I guess I have to count on Greece to reduce my costs! 🙂

Class-I OPS
Indeed, very interesting. Even more interesting if it resembles this output stage.

Hi Jan
In my opinion the most interesting articles would be:
Samuel Groener: A New Amplifier Topology with Push-Pull Transimpedance Stage
Kendall Castor-Perry: The Class i output stage
Cheers
Stein

Geometric mean (or approximately so) biasing has been around a long time in a lot of forms. It can soften the crossover and eliminate hard switching but not all the voltage transfer error of the output stage.
geometric mean bias
Hi Scott,
Depending on the circuit details, sometimes the voltage transfer gets even worse when geometric mean biasing is applied.
BTW, is there any resemblance between Kendall's class-I OPS and mine autobias-II circuit?
Cheers,
E.

It does look like your 3 transistors serve the same purpose as his "3-legged" input doublet. You would have to work out the equations to tell for sure. Nice circuit!
To be fair Kendall did say he is article is based on work done in the 80's. At least he told me in private, I have not seen the finished article. If it works out essentially the same functionality, your version is very elegant.

Hi Edmond,
I got this when
I tried to access your site:
Details:
Web page:
Auto Bias part II

Description:
Access to the web page was blocked by ESET Smart Security.
The web page is on the list of websites with potentially dangerous content.
I don't believe it but you might look into it.

This page has been on the net for some time, and I haven't seen anyone link to it on DIYAudio.
Trans_linear_Bias
In simulation though, I seem to remember even these "trans-linear" circuits have worse distortion than an ordinary EF.
EDIT: Edmond's circuit works well though...
