Chad,
do you know from which Seattle PO station you will be sending out the boards? I ask because I am a carrier over here in Seattle and I have to admit that I feel kinda silly paying $7.70 postage for "in-city" delivery.

Just a quick update... I just got back from my x-mas vacation yesterday, so now I'm playing catch-up to respond to all the 96 Aleph-X emails I received over the last three or four days.
Please be patient, I'll reply to everyone as soon as I can.

BidPay %^$@#
Ahoy.....
During last 5 days, I've been trying to pay Chad via Bidpay....
I know, bidpay is intended for auction payments.
So, I decided to put an Advertising on e-Bay for the aleph-X PCB, and I bid the PCB by myself. Then, I pay with bidpay. BUT, my order for the MO was denied. I don't know why, but my credit card's legit.
Anybody experience the same with bidpay?
If bidpay doesn't work, I think I'll pay with regular money order, but it will take some time for the mo to reach chad, since I have to send it by airmail post.
The deadline is 13 Jan 2003 right? How if the MO doesn't reach you, Chad, before 13 jan?
Any suggestion for paying chad? (besides bidpay, paypal...)
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Just kicking this back to the top so everyone is aware that time is near for payments to be made.
I would also vote to give what ever funds are left over to DIY.Com for the server project.

I second Mark's idea! Donate all procedes to the "Save DIY Audio Fund." This seems like a very good cause to me right now.
Also, Mark: We should colaborate on building our AlephX's. Two heads are better than one.
Cheers,
Zach

Hi Zach,
I'll give you a call at work on Monday. I already have all the parts to build mine including some surplus heat sinks. I also just bought 50 moren 9610's in case you need any. I also might have enough heat sinks for both of us if you don't mind the type I have. All I need is the toroid.
I also mentioned to Greg about building me a pair of JLow horns...which he says he will be able to get to right after the Park City theatre install.

Sounds good. I must be crazy for doing this when I still haven't finished the power supply for my ZenV4. Oh well...... It's still fun.

Save DIY Audio!!
CY in the Digital forum has suggested that a small donation be made to DIY AUdio each time we exchange cct boards or other similar reverse engineered or self engineered plans. I could go with that as well as these group buys being supportive of the site. I mean just exchanging ideas is not to be taxed but if you build something then perhaps a small donation could be made. Perhaps a Nelson Pass scholarship could be established for studies in audio engineering and a tax-exempt foundation could be established to support the site and scholarship. What about non-pop-up ads from places like Parts Express or other DIY sources. Then we could have raffles for things they might be convinced to donate as well. The raffles would generate funds for the server upkeep as well. I am sure manufacturers, once they actually see this site will be totally appalled that we are cloning their products...or they will see this site and its people as a resource of orginal thought in electronics and Industrial Design(Peter Daniels for example among the other talented box designers). Some of us might even get jobs out of our hobby!

Mark,
Great idea! It would be great to give something back to support our community. 🙂 After all, almost nobody would be building the Aleph-X, let alone getting a good deal on top-quality PCBs if it weren't for this website!
Of course, I will need to have most of the PCBs sold before we break even, and begin to bring in the surplus. This year, I ordered a whopping 1400 boards, which is more than enough to cover the 1160-odd orders in the wiki, plus spares to sell to latecomers. However, we won't start seeing any surplus funds until we sell enough boards to break even (somewhere around 1000+ boards, depending on expenses). After the main order, the surplus funds will trickle in as people buy up the spare boards.
So with that in mind, those of you who are signed up on the wiki, please follow through on your commitment, and submit your payment. Otherwise, I'll be stuck with a big bill! And remember - your purchase is now directly in support of this forum!

3 cheers for Chad
Chad,
very thoughtful of you to take this upon yourself for no profit and maybe even a loss.
If you do I would be more than happy to help pay for any outstanding debt, hopefully with other members🙂
cheers Luke

In adition to DIY audio server, why don't we also send Mr. Pass a birthday cake.... 😉 Just to show our gratitude for he has already nurtured us. Does anyone know his birthday?

UK Mosfet prices!
Hi....here in the uk we get overcharged for most things!
The IRFP044 MOSFETS are rather pricy in the UK (RS want about £3 a go for them), however, I have seen them for as littel as $1.20 from some US suppliers. The only problem is that they won't ship outside the US or canada, and have a minimum order of $100. So, it looks like unless we can coordinate a group buy through a helpful member on the other side of the atlantic these may prove a littel on the expensive side.
Are there any friendly hi fi nuts over the pond who can help!
Obviously we could come to some arrangement regarding postage etc.......

Re: UK Mosfet prices!
Why US? A supplier not found is not a lost case. Try Reichelt in Germany for IRFP044 at EUR 1.20 each. Pretty close.
