Thanks for the recommendation!! I’m strongly considering the SB Acoustics Bromo kit from Madi. Not quite sure yet whether the SR71 is worth it, even though it has many good reviews.Zaph ZD5 has been around a while, but has the reputation of being an excellent compact speaker.
Do you have experience with any of these also?
Yes!any recommendations of cool 3-way stand mounters or floor standing active system builds

How old are you? I know, a rude question as my mom taught me. But in audio, age can sway driver choices, as with it, goes trading off ultrasonic capability for other aspects of a design, where some still perceivable delight could be found. Thanks for taking the time to read my post; can't wait for the feedback and suggestions from the DIYA community!
Example, I'm 67 and literally cannot hear certain instruments present in recordings whose contribution to the overall sound of the piece I used to enjoy. Yet, even with that loss, I'm still sensitive (can hear) phase coherence, effortless bass, boxy sound / straining drivers, sound field and instrument placement,
Just, something to think about.
I have the troels gravessen ellam XT I made a long time agoZaph ZD5 has been around a while, but has the reputation of being an excellent compact speaker.
Same drivers but clearly not voiced the same way It would be interesting to make a New crossover to compare them...
There will be more headroom than a mechano23 for exemple. But I don't think you need it Inna 18sqm2.
You asked for 400mm tall MAX and preferably 300mm. I don't think you can find a 3 way (that make sense) of this size.
Are you ready for more.? You are speaking about floorstanding now...
Whoa, I haven't looked at the Ellams from Troels yet -- they look awesome! The newer "FLEX" version is wild! Might be able to do something super cool for the baffle with a CNC 3-axis router.I have the troels gravessen ellam XT I made a long time ago

For this build, probably I'll stick with just a decent 2-way, as 3-ways will just get too large. Maybe as one of my next projects I'll do a 3-way active system.
The Bromo from SB Acoustics is a strong front runner for me at this point.
The newest 5+1 revelator speaker of troels is the "revelator 51". Paper cone and soft dome.
Bromo is probably a good kit also. Ceramic driver will probably have a différent Sonic signature ... A mater of taste i think

The ceramic Bromo sounds great! Any of the SB CAC or CDC drivers are fantastic.
If you are looking for a small 3way and don't mind piecing it together, there are a lot of them out there. None of them are like these though...

Yeah, the Revelator 51 looks amazing! I have been seriously considering this one, but it's such a PIA to get the components imported to the USA.The newest 5+1 revelator speaker of troels is the "revelator 51". Paper cone and soft dome.

From what I've read, the SB Acoustics ceramics do have some favorable characteristics, especially when it comes to the cross-over regions, though apparently still very close to the AL drivers. At ~$10 more, and with the white cone, I think they look super cool!
What the... Those are pure witchcraft @wolf_teeth! Never imagined a 3-way could be that small 😵The ceramic Bromo sounds great! Any of the SB CAC or CDC drivers are fantastic.

Good stuff!
The Bromos are now top of my list. I'd like to build the XOs myself, so might order the components separately, instead of the Madi kit. Need to do some calculations...
I'm thinking I'll do them in matte white with 3/8 or 1/2 rounded edges. If I add some corner bracing to the inside -- to stiffen up the seams -- would I need to extend the cabinet depth a little to compensate for the reduced internal volume?
EKA Ceramic by StereoArt - same ceramic drivers with better crossover design. The Bromo from SB Acoustics is a strong front runner for me at this point.
measures better and sound better then 7k$ commercial speakers with about same custom drivers from SB:

@xjr100 Are the StereoArt XOs a notable improvement above the reference SB Acoustics Bromo design?
I’m in the USA, and it’ll cost me $50-$70 to have it shipped from EU — depending on carrier.
Standard XO from audiohobby would be $280, and the upgraded XO would be $420.
The entire Bromo kit from Madi (though currently out of stock) is just $469 before tax. If I purchased just the standard XO (and plans) from audiohobby, that would still be ~$665 before tax — after purchasing speakers in the US.
I appreciate the alternative option! Still, I’m curious if someone could tell me whether it would really be a notable improvement in performance by spending an extra ~$200 (~40%) for the StereoArt kit?

The differene is componets in crossover. Then one for 280$ is with Mundorf MCap EVO Oil capacitors, MOX resistors and L-series Aircore coils,
another one is extra +140$ for Supreme Evo Oil for tweeter, Baked BL-series coils and MREC10 resistors.
Sound difference is like a speakers from next price tag.
Full kit with drivers with Supreme EVO Oil $662.74 With factory high-gloss cabinets (damping, port tubes, terminals, grilles) $1,165.66
Ask guys there for a shipping discount with UPS expedited or AirMail, they have some free shipping rules for certain amount and weight.
Probably you may get full kit without cabinets with free shipping.
The difference with Original Bromo is quite big. EKA Ceramic have much better midrange, off-axis (especially vertical) and phase transition from woofer to tweeter.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of stands to your budget, although there are some nice looking DIY designs around

Yes, Brad at JuleFidelity/JFComponents is on FB on the Project Pad, and on MAC forum as hifiside. His business is selling the MAC drivers to help support the MAC website/forum and the Iowa DIY event. He is a stand up guy, and good to do business with.
There is no need to put corner bracing inside the cabinet if you use a Locking Miter Router Bit to shape the edges of the pieces. You can find bits ranging in price from about $25 to $80 depending on quality....

Then you don't need to worry about extending the cabinet depth to compensate for the reduced internal volume, although I'm not sure that's much of an issue anyhow.
The main advantages are in assembling the pieces together, sealing the corners from leaks, and overall strength of the finished cabinet. That's how I build just about any cabinet.
Using one of these assumes that you have a router table, and it does require some skill and practice. But I think the end result is well worth the time and money investment. Particularly, if you plan to build more boxes in the future.

You can purchase just the Revelator 51 – Crossover kit + Damping + Accessories;
and supply your own drivers.
Another option - Paul Carmody's Carrera

I have access to a full wood working shop, with a JessEm Mast-R-Lift II router table. I’ve never heard of a Locking Miter Router Bit, but this makes a lot of sense! I can definitely see that it will need some meticulous setup to get it right…
I have access to biscuit cutters also; would those provide a similar level of strength improvement with easier execution?
