Hey Cruser,
the 12.25" fresnal that you bought from DiyLabs, was that good quality and cheaper than other places (not that I can find any other places) ? Is it plastic or glass?
Thanks

cruser,
One more "?" what Brand, Model of OHP are you useing ?
I'm looking on Ebay and don't want to spend too much on the OHP.
I'd rather use the money on the panel if I have to.

cruser:
does this fresnel lens cover all area of a 15" LCD, even at the corner? could you see the windows "start" button? I want a lens that can give me a full screen. It is not too much to miss corners, but just annoying.
On my 3M9550 i can see "art" from the start button upto "9:25" form "9:25 pm" in the task bar. I did have to cut the corners on the ohp, but the standard fresnel is big enough for that.
With the new nvidia drivers you can shrink the desktop to fit any size ohp.
What is the problem really with the panel size? Is it that bad that you miss a few pixels to the left/right? Don't tell me its noticable when watching movies....

You have to cut down the corners on the OHP's glass holder. The fresnel is a perfect sqare, while the LCD is a 3:4 rectagle. Thus, the corners on the fresnel aren't a factor.
A 15" lcd has a viewable area of 12"x9". Therefore, the whole image shoud fit. The only thing that restricts the image is the Overhead projector. So if you were to make an enclosure then it should display the entire image with about .125" spare on either side. The fresnal could be tightly secured by two supports above and below the lcd (which will also stop excess light getting through). I'll include an image the show what I mean. And I'll also include my original design (has changed, but not on comp) to give an idea of making it.
Also. if anyone can help me find an aspheric condenser lens and a reflector to make a lighting design like at http://www.hommie.net/ that would be appreciated. Or if anyone has a lighting design to maximise the amount of light used and also evenly spread the light onto the fresnal that would be appreciated.
Thanks
Note: The image isn't to scale, so that is not a 16:9 lcd on the fresnal.

like mine
but, your light source is not like the point light source, the lamp like a big ball
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

thank Morien! at first ,you theach some new words that i need to say:
1 the amount of light used
2 evenly spread the light
that is important!
how to get evenly spread the light, that is the point light source, a lamp like a dot, not a big ball.
how to get the maximize the amount of light used, i think this is if you used a single LCD:
double spherical lens, one surface convex one surface concave, magnifier.(not aspheric lens)
and spherical reflector.
put the point light source into the centre of the spherical reflector
1 the amount of light used
2 evenly spread the light

ywh,
that design I drew before I had researched everything and so the ball shape of the light in my design is incorrect. I will be using a rod-like Metal Halide bulb, unless there are benefits of a light bulb such as yours?
What is that lens you are using to distribute the light onto the fresnal? I've included a close up of the lens circled. I hope you haven't already answered that already 😕
Could you include some pics of the insides of your projector at all? I've seen the pics at http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=8517 (great resuts btw) but I can't figure much out from that pic.
How big is your projector btw? If it's not too long (I have space constraints for where I'm setting up my projector) I'll just make it like yours instead of my design.
Thanks

18wheeler,
then you're pretty much screwed. Unless you make the res smaller with borders (someone said new nvidia drivers do it?) or ignore it if the primary function will be playing widescreen movies.
But all 12.25" fresnels should work.

Morien !
yes,the ball-like light is incorrect, rod-like Metal Halide bulb is very good, because it is fit , it can be set into space.
this is my lens:
"How big is your projector btw?"
is it? 14'LCD

Oh sorry, you missunderstood me. I meant, what are the dimensions of the whole projector. From the Projection lens to the base of the OHP. I'll post a pic just to clarify 🙂ywh said:How big is your projector btw?

Also, how did you make your light setup (your first pic) ? How much did it cost for just that part (not the entire projector) ?
Thanks again.

I know you are always working on your english so here are a few tips:
1) "the dimensions is 70cm" = the dimensions ARE 70cm
2) "I have never buy something online" = "I have never BOUGHT something online"
You say "buy" when you are talking about buying something right now. You say "bought" when you are talking about the past.
3) "Those lamp is not sell online" = "Those lamps ARE not SOLD online"
You say "sell" when you are talking about selling something right now. You say "sold" when you are talking about the past.
Hope it helps.
