NAIM NAIT 2 DIY

"Bigger" PSU for a 200 style preamp. ( from China with love)
Parts on this board is not original
I think better way is buy the original Naim DR boards
Or find the use hi-cap DR for compare sound DR with not DR hi-cap if you have this

P.s this is way same with Stradivarius violins
Many copies of all world
but sound is not Stradivarius

It may not be Stradivarius but I'm not Paganini either 🙂
Naim products are not consistent and they all sound different even though they use the same parts.
I read a few posts where people replaced old blue caps with kemet yellow Naim is using now and they reverted back to old capacitors.
Anyway, SMD transistors Supernait uses in preamplifier stages are not " original " either so it's not going to sound like any of real Naim preamps no matter what I do. I'm only trying to get rid of the sound signature this preamp has changing passive components because it sounds unacceptable the way it is in original form.
From what you posted before you don't like the sound of original Naim DR regulator. Who knows, maybe the clone with fake parts sounds better ?
It's all just an entertainment to a degree .
Have you ever seen green tants like the ones in CD2 ?

I'm sure Kemet tants are OK but I would be surprised if they sound the same. I'm going to measure every blue tant and they will only go in the coupling positions. PSU decoupling on 317 regulators done with yellow caps. Naim used blue NEC tants until their stock supplies ran out. Tantalum capacitors do not have known shelf life related defects unlike electrolytic caps . Technology improves so the new caps have better tolerances and are less prone to failures. More reliable part is more important for manufacturers than a minute difference in sound. Because those parts will be soldered to pads holding SMD components, it should be relatively easy to change them without the need to disassemble the whole unit.
I'm not hacking Supernait because I have nothing better to do and more money than brain . The possibility of repair smd based power section has proven questionable. The cost of repair in local Naim service facility would certainly be close to value of used SN1 in very good condition with box and all accessories. My example is not flawless by a long shot and pretty much worthless . It's main value to me is a face plate. I'm not joking 🙂 It is matching CDS3 that I have and it looks like NAC 552 haha. I just need to color it's sound a little bit. At this point it's pretty irrelevant if it's going to sound like Naim or not since I didn't like the type of Naim sound it was generating in original form but I quite like the type of Naim sound I hear from Nait 3 , CDX and newly acquired CD2 .
All the best

Wow
Better way is a send amplifier to Naim Service for repair to original state …
yeah, too late for that.... and for the price of Naim service in US I have full function preamp with PSU on board and NAP-250-2. I like the sound of that pre and was up till 3Am listening to shop speakers. Bass was monumental and it was kind of romantic. I checked it in the morning before work (it was left ON all night and it is leaner sounding but not harsh . Also much faster sounding. The only major "screwap" is that I hooked up ground lines for regulators to on board speakers output grounds. Apparently the Amp section ground and preamp section ground gets disconnected if the link between the sections is removed so I have to have it plugged on. Now I need to update that NAP-250/2. Felsic green caps are good. I re-formed them for a day along with old ERO's in feedback positions. The only question mark about the amp is , should I splurge for Kemet slit foil caps or use regular ones?

Good news. As lazy as it sounds ( I kind of like it ) my dumpster found Naim 250.2 actually has been re-capped with Kemet AlC10D caps ,on PSU , Samwha Pet J7E 105 degree on decoupling and unfortunately 105 low ESR on 10uF /63v . 100uF /63 V Wurst AP- ATLL caps were used in feedback positions. I'm not sure if I should futz with ut
