My_Ref Fremen Edition - Build thread and tutorial

I'm testing my amps on the bench, has not purchased chassis yet.
Test points are correct values and DC offset 7mV.
But amplifiers can not be used to enjoy music.:(
There is too much background noise.
I have to turn the volume up to drown the noise floor.
When I bridged input, there is no noise.
Have tried different signal sources and all conceivable ways to ground
toroid transformer, pcb and heatsink.Nois comes when I try
to connect the signal.
Hope someone has some good advice on what I should try to get
noise down.
There are good sound in the speakers when I turn up the volume.:)
But I must also be able to play at low volume.
 
39 degrees celcius is chassis temperature on the upper part.. Ambient temperature of the room is 20 degrees. I think a slot on the front higher up will let the warm air that stays there flow out. Because the bottom part of the chassis is 6 degrees cooler.

Doesn't seem too bad, after all... ;)

Yes probably some holes to permit some airflow could help.

There could be a number of reasons/errors but usually the My_Ref is dead silent, as Bas just wrote:

Could you post a picture of your setup? I don't want to sound like a douchebag but my myref is dead silent.

It would help to understand what's wrong.

In the meanwhile... Some questions:

  • Did you check polarity on input connector? A reversed GND/Hot could give hum
  • Do you have very sensitive speakers, like 94dB and up? If so you should ground your heatsinks, see build guide.
  • Do you have toroidal transformers? Try to rotate them, you should be able to find a position where silence come in.

Are the toroid transformers also in the small chassis?
Is amp sensitive to proximity to toroid transformers?
Can two transformers be stacked to save space or will it give noise problems.
Noise in both amplifiers is like having the radio on, outside station.
I think it's white noise.Is it the source or someting wrong in amp`s?
I must examine amplifiers and source more thoroughly.
Parts does not match together yet.
Dario: Input is right wired, Center pin of the RCA to hot input.
Test speaker is B&W LM1 bookshelfspeaker -91 db-8ohm.

Two toroidal generally can be stacked.
I think it's white noise.Is it the source or someting wrong in amp`s?
Since you have the noise when your input is shorted...it sounds like the amp....or how it has been wired up.
